On this week’s edition of Trailer Theater, we have an appearances from Snorlax, Tolkien, Olaf, The Fab Five, Satan, and more.

Coming soon to a theater near you…

POKÉMON Detective Pikachu – I still can’t believe this is a real movie. Don’t get me wrong, I’m stoked it is. Look at that Snorlax! And Mewtwo! My greater hope is that this leads to a proper Ash-led, live action POKÉMON training film in the near future. The case begins May 10th.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote – Terry Gilliam’s take on Don Quixote has become the very definition of development hell. Production started in 1989! Luckily it will finally hit theaters, but as a one-night only event on April 10th, playing more than 700 North American cinemas via Screen Media and Fathom Events.

Midsommar – Director Ari Aster’s follow-up to Hereditary. Need I say more? This one fittingly arrives in theaters in midsummer.

Hellboy – Passed on to director Neil Marshall, the new Red Band trailer looks like a fun, R-rated take on the Hellboy franchise, albeit lacking some of the vision and style del Toro brought to the series. Hellboy hits on April 12th.

Frozen 2 – Could the Frozen sequel be an allegory on global warming? That would be rad! Whatever the case, get ready for a Frozen filled holiday season as the new film drops on November 22nd. This one is destined to make a ton of money.

Shazam! – Dark, brooding Batman, emo Superman, and the notably stark DC Cinematic Universe looks to take its biggest tonal turn yet (Aquaman was a mere step). This looks fun, but rumor has it, and this trailer would suggest, that The Rock’s Black Adam isn’t in the film. Too bad. Shazam! lands on April 5th.

Tolkien – As we await the ambitious Middle Earth series coming to Amazon Prime, at least we have this look at the writer and creator himself to whet our appetite. Tolkien is due in theaters on May 10th.

Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles – A stunning animation style looks to artistically propel this true story of how Luis Buñuel made his second movie into an art form all its own. Coming soon from GKIDS.

Hail Satan? – Watch this trailer. Here is a documentary about justice and equality told through the lens of the Satanic Temple. This looks like a blast!

His Dark MaterialsGame of Thrones is ending this April, and the Amazon Tolkien series is a long ways out, but fantasy fans can at least look forward to BBC One and HBO’s ambitious new show based on Philip Pullman’s epic book series. Is that Lin-Manuel Miranda in the trailer? Yes, yes it is. His Dark Materials premieres later this year.

Queer Eye: Season 3 – Get the tissues ready. The endlessly endearing Fab-Five are back on Netflix March 15th!

When They See Us – Ava DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries about the Central Park Five is due to premiere this May.

Hanna: Season 1 – Some definite Stranger Things/Eleven vibes coming from Amazon’s new series based on the film Hanna. Check it out on Prime Video March 29th.

Altered Carbon: Season 2 – This is simply a teaser, but it’s enough of a tease to get me excited about the return of Netflix’s cyberpunk live-action series.

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs – Horror fans take note! This March, Shudder is bringing back the horror and exploitation film maestro himself, Joe Bob Briggs, to host an all-new Last Drive-In series.
