Amazon is running a couple of sales right now on the iPhone and Apple Watch that make it about as cheap as it has ever been to set up your child with an Apple Watch rather than a smartphone.
Last year, I published an article here on GeekDad about how you can have your child wear a cellular enabled Apple Watch instead of carrying around a smartphone.
Right now, Amazon is running two separate sales that make setting the Apple Watch cheaper than ever.
Amazon has a sale on an Amazon Refurbished iPhone SE from between $123 and $167 (depending on color and capacity).
Amazon is also running a sale on the brand new Series 3 (GPS+Cellular) Apple Watches for $229. If you take advantage of both sales, you can get both an iPhone and an Apple Watch for as little as $352.
For comparison, the cheapest iPhone available on Apple’s website right now is a refurbished iPhone 7 for $469 (and that is just for an iPhone, not an iPhone and an Apple Watch).
My article from last summer still gets a lot of interest even today, so I wanted to get this information out there for anyone who may be interested in trying out this setup with their child. This is even a great option for an adult (my wife loves her iPhone SE!).
