The game I play most regularly these days is Warhammer Underworlds. I think it’s the finest game Games Workshop has ever produced. One of the things I love about it is the small model count. It means that I can actually have a fully painted force, which is something of a rarity for me. Yet, despite the relatively small size of the Underworlds warbands, I still get some of the models muddled up. One goblin looks much like another.
In part, this confusion is because I regularly chop and change which warband I play. Variety is the spice of life, after all. We also recently added a new camera angle to our YouTube battle reports, meaning we wanted a way to shout out which figure was which. These warband fighters are individuals in their own right, and they deserve to have their names celebrated. Enter, Versatile Terrain.
Versatile Terrain: I Saw Their Signs.
Versatile Terrain is a growing small business, based in the UK, that makes nameplates for miniature bases. They’re ideal for Warhammer Underworlds and other skirmish type games, but they can be applied to just about any plastic miniatures base. I’ve seen them used for almost every GW game and they are particularly effective on its massive Titan models. They’d also be awesome for personalizing your D&D character model too.
There are a host of options available. A variety of sizes of base, different lengths of plate (to fit bigger names on), round ones, ovular ones, and now flat ones, for traditional square bases, too. If that wasn’t enough, you can even choose your font, whether you want it to be gothic, futuristic, or in stylized orc-like scrawl (just three of the options offered). The product is 3D printed and comes attached on a handy sprue, that makes painting the miniature easy. Even with a simple paint job, the plates look excellent. The plates themselves are easy to remove from their sprues once painted. Add a few dabs of glue and they are simple to attach to whatever base you are using.
Versatile Terrain nameplates are a great way to add personality to your gaming figures. With a host of customizable options and very friendly and approachable designers, you’ll almost certainly be able to find whatever you’re looking for.
