Tech Makes Time for Fashion: Google Wear OS + Michael Kors

The Michael Kors Access Runway smartwatch has all the sophistication that fans of MK expect, plus all incredible benefits of the Google Wear OS. The round 42mm case has a contemporary “oversized” design, making it easy to see this smartwatch’s interface. Combine the gold-tone or rose gold-tone finish with a stainless-steel casing, and users are treated to a fashionable timepiece with cutting-edge features in a lightweight body.

The latest Google Wear OS fills the Michael Kors design with a robust feature-set:

  • Smartphone connectivity – compatible with both iOS and Android. Users can take selfies, ring their phone, access music, and maximize their time with easy to manage notifications.
  • Proactive Help from the Google Assistant – keeps users ahead of your day with proactive, personalized help from Google Assistant, even before you ask.
  • Smarter Health Coaching from Google Fit – including two new evidence-based activity trackers: Heart Points and Move Minutes, designed in partnership with the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization. These metrics measure activity intensity, and smarter health coaching makes your fitness goals more achievable by motivating you to stay active throughout your day.
  • Google Pay – linking users credit cards allows payment with a wave almost anyplace.

The blending of the Google Wear OS and the latest Michael Kors design (both in the hardware and software) has created a coherent design with a collection of features that can move between all parts of the day: from business to workout to an evening out.

Critique

We found the Michael Kors Access Runway smartwatch with Google Wear OS to be a particularly good option of the devices available. The fashionable design and customized watch faces are everything fashionistas would expect from Michael Kors. The hardware is quite good also—5ATswim-proof and well-built with a very nice display and a built-in GPS chip. The actual weight of the watch feels quite light on the wrist despite the “oversized” design.

There were a few things that we found disappointing though: the Wi-Fi connectivity did seem underpowered and occasionally lost connection, the battery life was lacking (of course, this is a trade-off with the weight of the watch), and the stainless-steel band we tested feels overly light. While the excellent fitness features in the Google Wear OS are incredible, and their integration into the Michael Kors watch faces is beautiful, they seem to be mismatched with a high-fashion smartwatch that some people might avoid taking into a workout.

We have been compensated for this review of the Michael Kors Access Runway smartwatch watch in the form of the product; all opinions are our own.

The Michael Kors Access Runway smartwatch is available now from BestBuy in a gold-tone finish (direct link) or rose gold-tone finish (direct link).
