The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending November 16, 2018.
Gaming News
A quick summary of this week’s board game news:
- First, some good news: it’s board game sale time! While many more big deals will be coming in the next few weeks, Miniature Market has gone ahead and released their Black Friday deals a week early. The sale has hundreds of board games, including Divinity Derby for only $12, which was one of my favorite games of 2018 and is this week’s featured image.
- The mid-terms are over, so we can all forget about politics… until April, anyway, when Revolution of 1828 comes out, allowing you to relive the excitement of America’s first negative campaign. Fun fact (and, uh, spoiler): John Quincy Adams became the second President to lose re-election. The first was his father. And another fun fact: I’m a total sucker for political board games, so this one will most definitely be making it to my shelves.
- Just in case you didn’t have enough ways to play Ticket to Ride—and really, can you have too many?—you can now add your PS4 to the list.
- Also in the category of “play your favorite games everywhere,” Tsuro and Roll For It! are available on the Kindle Fire.
- If you want to have an insanely fun time while making your fingers hurt a lot, Ice Cool 2 is out this week.
- Each of the Colt Express bandits has their own expansion now, where all players now compete against one of the bandits as well as the other players. You can get the mini-expansion for Belle, Django, Tuco, Cheyenne, Doc, and Ghost.
- Chris James, founder of Casual Game Revolution and publisher of Casual Game Insider, has a new venture: Boardy.tv, a TV channel devoted to board games. You can watch the stream live on any device at the website, or you can get the app for Roku and, soon, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV.
- Fans of Netflix’s Black Mirror will surely remember the episode “Nosedive,” starring Bryce Dallas Howard, about a society where literally everything about your life is controlled by your social media score. While China tries out something like it IRL, Asmodee is going the board game route. It’ll be available after Nov. 25 exclusively at Target.
- Another Netflix property getting the cardboard treatment is Narcos, available Nov 23.
- The Quacks of Quedlinburg, winner of the Kennerspeil des Jahres, hits stores Nov 16.
