My Thoughts
Upon unboxing, the HyperX Cloud Mix is not a showstopper. It is a basic black color with the HyperX logo in a light silver on the earcups. It comes with a cloth bag to put it in, with cables to plug in your headset directly, and a micro USB cord to charge the unit.
The headset is smaller than most of the other HyperX gaming headsets, possibly to make it more similar to popular music headphones. The headbands are made of strong plastic and a soft padding, which makes it a comfortable and sturdy wear.
The main button to power and sync is on one side and the volume buttons are on the other, so there is no confusion between the two—which can be an issue on other headsets. What makes it a “Cloud” headset is how soft and light it is. For the quality of the HyperX Cloud Mix, you are not punished with weight or discomfort and can wear it for even the longest gaming or music sessions.
Once it was on, the quality of the sound was magnificent with deep booming lows and crisp highs. I wore it while I was demoing a copy of the new Call of Cthulhu game on PS4, and it was a real boost to the creepy atmosphere. For music, I paired the Cloud Mix to a Galaxy S9 and it performed great with music, audiobooks, and podcasts.
If there is any complaint to be had about the Cloud Mix, it may be that the $200 price tag is a bit pricey, but I assure you the quality is up there with some of the high-performance headphones in that price range. So if you are a gamer and music lover looking for an all in one solution, the Cloud Mix may be a good investment.
