Sony Announces New PlayStation Classic Gaming Console

Sony Playstation Classic

Based on the success of Nintendo’s NES Classic and Super Nintendo Classic consoles, it’s not hard to imagine that every video game company with a back catalog wants in on the action (Heck, even Neo Geo has a mini console available). So it was only a matter of time before Sony announced their own mini retro console which has now been revealed as the PlayStation Classic. With the PlayStation 4’s successful release of the ultra-modern Marvel’s Spider-Man it’s easy to forget the company’s roots with the system that started it all, but here’s what we know about the new throwback:

  • Releases December 3, 2018 (Just in time for Christmas)
  • It will cost $99.99
  • Comes with two wired controllers
  • Loaded with 20 games (only 5 have been announced so far: Final Fantasy VII, TEKKEN 3, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash!, Wild Arms)
  • Will allow for game saves with a virtual memory card

The rest of the games that will come pre-loaded are only a guess, but this writer is hoping for Grand Theft Auto, Twisted Metal, and one of the Worms games, among others. What do you think should be included? Comment and check out the pre-release trailer below:
