The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending September 28, 2018.
- Axis & Allies & Zombies has a street date. It’ll be on shelves next month, October 26, just before Halloween. Perfect timing!
- Betrayal at House on the Hill has long made many’s people’s “best Halloween game” lists. So you’d think Wizards of the Coast would be all over making sure the Legacy version, Betrayal Legacy, was in stores before Halloween. Unfortunately, it currently looks like it’s arriving the week after, on November 9.
- Keyforge‘s release date (November 15) draws closer and we’re starting to see more preview events. They’ll be at TwitchCon and have some others lined up, this first group being in Europe. Soon!
- Last week, I told you about the free Onitama digital game. This week, I’ll point you toward Way of the Wind, the next expansion for Onitama. This add-on features a couple new move cards, but also a neutral piece (in beautiful, clear plastic) and 8 cards for this piece. This piece is controlled by both players and prevents either player from moving onto the space it occupies. Look for it in October.
- The new Renegade RPG, Kids on Bikes, is out now.
- This week’s feature is from deep in the Grimm Forest.
- On shelves next week are a number of games, including Most Wanted, a simplified poker and bluffing game from North Star, Gunkimono, an area control affair set in feudal Japan from Renegade, and A Distant Plain, the third printing of the GMT new classic set in Afghanistan.
- This last piece of news comes from the pages of People magazine. Let that sink in for a moment. It’s about “hilarious” new versions of classic games from Hasbro for fans of that craptacular black and white card game whose name will not be spoken. Clue is set after a drunken Vegas night. The new version of Life asks you to deal with crippling debt. Too real.
At GeekDad, we write a lot about tabletop games. Here’s what we’ve written about this past week:
- Jim Kelly told us about two Dragon-themed Kickstarters currently seeking funding, Lost Dragons and Legendary Dragons. He also reviewed Cryptid, a 3-5 player game from Osprey. AND Jim told us about issue #1 of an RPG themed comic book, Rolled & Told.
- Ricardo Rebelo wrote about a Kickstarter by some modular RPG terrain made by a WETA sculptor. He also closely examined World of Darkness, a new documentary about White Wolf and their horror RPGs.
- Simon Yule had another Curse of Strahd adventure. That’s number 71 for you scoring at home.
- Samantha Fisher reviewed Robotech: Force of Arms.
- Lastly, Jonathan Liu reviewed Expancity, the city building game with 3D components. It’s what New York 1901 should have looked like.
