Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News for Week 36 of 2018

The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending September 7, 2018.

• Scythe (read our review) is now live and available on Steam for both PC and Mac. Plus, they’ve added a hard difficult for all you tough guys.
• Made it through Mansions of Madness (2e) already? Still have a shred of your sanity? Prepare to lose it in a new DLC scenario called Altered Fates. Who would’ve guessed your last grasp on reality could be sold for just five bucks?
• The indie darling from the brother and sister team of Jonathan and Victoria Ying, Bargain Quest, just got a second printing, thanks to Kickstarter. The drafting and hand management game of adventure and (gasp!) capitalism won’t have to worry about funding a third printing because Renegade picked up the title. Look for it on shelves in January when the second printing of the Kickstarter drops.
• Also coming in January from Renegade is a very special Valentine’s Day edition of Kitty Paw. It’s so cute, you might just melt.
• This week’s image? Tower of Madness from Smirk & Dagger. (Read our review.)
• The new art of Carcassonne keeps rolling out, now in the form of expansion 9, Hills and Sheep. In this version, the hills look much hillier and the sheep more sheepier. I’d say something snarkier, but the new version really is much prettier. Seriously. I’m thinking of replacing all my original tiles, it looks so good.
• Roll For It! (read our review), the great little press-your-luck dice game is available for iOS and Android, it has been for a bit now. The cool news is that this weekend, tomorrow and Sunday only, it’s free from developer Thunderbox Entertainment!
• Next week, on shelves, look for Coimbra from Eggertspiele. Visit Portugal during the 15/16th centuries, at the height of the Age of Discovery. The dice & card game received a good amount of buzz and praise at Gen Con when introduced as a heavier weighted game that’s not only a challenge but innovative too. (And pretty to look at!)
• Reef comes out too and our Logan Giannini reviewed it this week!
• There’s precious else to talk about this week. Sometimes it just works this way. So, in closing, let me point out one more that seems fun and interesting. Wednesday, in the lead up to Essen, W. Eric Martin over at BGG mentioned The Table Is Lava is coming from R&R Games. No one ever accused me of being mature, so I was immediately excited with the title. Then I read the synopsis, “Toss cards onto the table to save your meeples, while trying to knock other players’ pieces into the lava at the same time. Have the most survivors, and you win!” Yeah… I’m totally in.
