Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News for Week 27 of 2018

Featured Gaming Re-Roll Tabletop Games

The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending July 6, 2018.

  • Catan Universe, the digital collection of Catan-related games, adds another choice for players this week. Rivals for Catan, the two-player card game, is now available on all the platforms you can find Catan Universe. Play against a friend across town, across the globe, or against AI. The introductory game is available for free.
  • Cryptozoic announced the arrival of Wallet in game stores next week. The party game for 2-7 players will include—you guessed it—a real wallet in every box, and when you’re done playing, the whole game fits in that wallet. But it’s no ordinary wallet. Packed with hidden pockets and zippered hideaways, players will take turns exploring and deceiving opponents as they try to find enough cash and IDs to convince the police of their innocence!

  • If you’re still trying to fill out your Gen Con schedule (can you believe it’s less than a month now?!!), consider dropping by Lucas Oil on Friday evening to hear our own Jonathan Liu and a handful of others talk about the art of writing game reviews. I went last year to support Jonathan and ended up being captivated—it was a great talk!
  • Deep Water has a number of titles making their way to stores next week: Round House (read our review), Sorcerer and Stones (read our review), and, my favorite, Mystery of the Temples (read our review). These are great games that pack a decent amount of strategy into small boxes.
  • The really excellent and outstanding game Junk Orbit will be hitting shelves next week too. It’s simple to teach but has a lot going on, and after about 20 games, everyone I’ve played it with loves it. Look for a review soon, but don’t be afraid of pulling the trigger on this great game!
