On July 29th, Target in conjunction with MEGO Toys and it’s former CEO Marty Abrams returned the classic line of figures exclusively to Target shelves!
Growing up in the 1970s and ’80s, my introduction to action figures came through the prism of what Mego Toys had to offer. Luckily for me, they had a lot of options. My first Mego figure was Spock from the Star Trek line of figures, and, in true Mego fan fashion, my second was Spider-Man—making away missions far more fascinating than originally intended. So on July 11th, 2018, when Target announced that they were bringing back the classic toy line with former CEO Marty Abrams, I was excited about the possibilities. I have been checking the Target website on an almost daily basis to see when the new figures would be available and on July 29th, my wait came to an end.
Mego and Target will be offering far more than just 4 new Star Trek figures (Sulu, Chekov, and Mirror Universe Kirk and Spock), they will also be blending TV characters from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s as well as superheroes of today.

Marty Abrams and Mego have captured the spirit of the original line with throwbacks to popular classic TV, movie and cartoon characters—like the cast of Star Trek, Broadway Joe Namath and Action Jackson—and add some new characters from fan-fave shows like The Brady Bunch, Cheers, I Dream of Jeannie and Married with Children. The line will feature 8-inch figures, 14-inch figures, and 8-inch figure 2-pack dioramas.
The figures are a great representation of the original style and go flawlessly with my classic figures on the bridge of my original 1970s Mego Enterprise playset. I am happy to be able to finally fill out the original bridge crew.
The next bit of good news is the price. Most single figures are $14.99, with the exception of the 14″ Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, which are $19.99, and the diorama playsets like the Mirror Universe and I Dream of Jeannie, which are $29.99. Compared to other “collector” figures available out there, this is an absolute steal. The only catch is that there are about 10,000 of each figure made, which means that you better run and not walk to your local Target in hopes of purchasing these beauties before the secondary market jacks up the prices.
