Introducing Kill Team

Games Workshop News: ‘Kill Team’ Relaunched

Gaming Tabletop Games

Kill Team RelauchedIf you’ve followed Games Workshop releases over the past few years, you might be forgiven for thinking that it’s not quite sure how best to bring skirmish versions of its games to the table. First, there was Kill Team, then Shadow War: Armageddon, then a re-release of the classic gang warfare game Necromunda, and today GW has moved full circle, having announced a whole new version of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team.

Here’s the official Kill Team Announcement.

I’m very excited about this release. It looks to be bringing lessons learned from the creation of Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire, (I love playing Shadespire.) and combining it with the amazing terrain and iconic forces of GW’s 41st Millennium setting. Kill Team looks stunning and will allow for character progression within the teams. There is also the promise that the game will be well supported.

The game will support GW’s “three ways to play” format. Open (turn up with some models, play a game), narrative (play games as part of an ongoing story), and “matched” (tournament style play). Judging by the success of Warhammer Underworlds tournaments, I imagine matched play is going to be the version of choice for most gamers.

The thing that most appeals to me about Kill Team as a parent is the small model count and the relatively small size of the battlefield (the game will take place on 22″X30″ board). This means minimal setup/pack away time, and children can paint up their forces without being too overwhelmed.

Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team is slated for release this month. I’ll be bringing you a review here on GeekDad and a host of video content on Agents of Sigmar (which you can find on Facebook and YouTube.)
