The Getting Excited for SDCC 2018 Post

San Diego Comic Con 2018 starts this week with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, and here are some of the things we’re most excited about!

Voltron

Have you heard about Voltron: Legendary Defender? If not, this must be the first thing you’ve ever read by me! Voltron is totally my jam and they are coming to SDCC in a big way. You can also check out our previous coverage of Voltron.

On Friday at 10:15am, DreamWorks is hosting a Voltron: Legendary Defender panel with executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery, and voice actors Rhys Darby, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and Jeremy Shada. They will be premiering the first episode of Season 7 at the panel! Attendees will also receive an exclusive poster that joins up with the previous con posters.

Then on Saturday morning, Joaquim, Lauren, Josh, Bex, and Rhys will be signing an SDCC-exclusive poster created by the Voltron crew. Limited tickets will be made available in advance in the Autograph Area.

You can also stop by Lion Forge Comics at Booth #5543 to get a SDCC exclusive variant of Voltron: Legendary Defender Series 3, Issue 1 with cover art by Keezy Young and limited to 400 copies.

Like last year, Playmates Toys is offering a new version of Voltron–Hyper Phase Voltron. This is a legendary set of lions with brand new projectile-launching weapons upgrades and hyper phase color scheme. They will only be available as a boxed set though, not in singles like last year’s. These toys will be available through Entertainment Earth Booth #2343, Think Geek/Gamestop Booth #3349, Toynk Toys Booth #815/4437, and Trendsetters/Sure Thing Toys Booth #4730.

And lastly, LEGO announced a Classic Voltron set that goes on sale to LEGO Club Members at the end of the month, but a limited number will be available at SDCC!

He-Man

To be more accurate-Prince Adam! Super7 has created a special Laughing Prince Adam figure inspired by the viral video! It will be exclusively available at the Hordak’s Lair pop-up event (located at 701 8th Avenue) during Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 18th and 19th only!

Transformers

There are always a bunch of cool Transformers exclusives at SDCC, but this is the one I am most looking forward to – The Vol.1 Retro Rock Garage BumbleBee set. This set features a classic Camaro version of ‘Bee from the upcoming movie, but that isn’t why I want this set-I want the dinosaur cassettes! Uruaz and Zauru were part of the Japanese Headmasters line that never made it to the US, so this is the first time these two figures (and who doesn’t love Transformers cassettes AND dinosaurs) are being released here, and I want!!

Vertigo Comics and The Sandman

By now you’ve probably heard of the new Sandman Universe line of comics coming from Vertigo and seen this amazing cover by Jae Lee. The Vertigo comics panel is one I am anxiously anticipating to get more details on what is in store for my favorite part of the comic book world. The panel is at 6 PM on Saturday in Room 23ABC.

Nerdist

As usual, Nerdist is coming to SDCC in a big way. From Thursday, July 19th through Sunday, July 22nd they will be taking over the Sparks Gallery on 530 Sixth Avenue for all-day entertainment and refreshments, special social hours and fan parties, live Nerdist shows, in-depth interviews and conversations, meet & greets, exclusive merchandise, photo opportunities, a VR experience, and much more. Nerdist House will be open to the public and free of charge. Comic-Con attendees are welcome, but a badge is not required.

They have so many activities, guests, and parties planned that I can’t even list them all, but the ones I’m especially looking forward to are the live edition of Talkin’ Toons with Rob Paulsen, Maurice LaMarche, and Randy Rogel and the 200th Episode of Bizarre States Party, hosted by Jessica Chobot and Andrew Bowser. Stay tuned to Nerdist.com for updates and schedules of all of their events!

Cosplay

By now, most of our readers probably know how much I love cosplay. It’s my favorite part of any convention I go to. Not only do I love seeing all the great cosplay and watching the competitions, but I love wearing my own and showing off my costumes and props since it’s what I do for my “day job.” This year I’ll be bringing Loki, Azakaban Sirius Black, and several other still TBD costumes.

If you see me at the convention, feel free to stop us and say hello and get a free hug if you’re so inclined. What are you most looking forward to about SDCC 2018?
