The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending June 15, 2018.
- CMON has a direct-to-retial release coming in Q3 and it’s pretty kick ass. I mean, it’s Kick Ass: The Board Game. You’ll have to battle dozens of bad guys in New York in this game, while managing your social life. The game is based strongly on the comic and, no surprise, has lots of great minis.
- Just after last week’s Re-Roll, we learned that Wizards of the Coast was pulling the license on Android: Netrunner from FFG, effective October 22. There’s no word on what the next step is for the game, but one thing is for sure — if Wizards publishes it, they better change the art from the last time they had it!
- One of Renegade’s new RPGs, Overlight is on the way this fall, but we’re getting a peek at some of the peripheral products now, though. A game master screen (with a sourcebook) and over-sized dice, specific for the game, can be pre-ordered now.
- This week’s image is from the collector’s edition of Takenoko.
- Yesterday, Renegade announced their fifth (!) game from designer Aza Chen. Fireworks will feature cats shooting off fireworks. Why not! The most valuable display wins in this small box game, which will arrive in September.
- Z-Man pulled back the curtain on their first Choose Your Own Adventure game, House of Danger. It’s a cooperative affair … and available for pre-order now.
- The publisher that begins with Z will also be bringing a new version of Condottiere to stores. The popular area control game has been out of print for a while, so this refreshed version should be well-received.
- If you can’t get enough of L5R, you’ll probably want to play the upcoming RPG based on the Rokugan universe. This week, FFG released a preview of the core rulebook, in advance of the game’s Q3 release.
- You thought we were done with Z-Man? Nope. This week, they also released a preview of some of the gameplay in Race to the New Found Land. Looks great!
- Funagain Games relaunched their online store. After a mammoth warehouse sale, the store has been reinvented to focus on hard-to-find games from around the world.
- Scythe is available as Early Access on Steam right now. It’s Windows only, so all of you people with Apple and Linux boxes can go pound sand.
- There are a number of things supposed to be making their way into the wild this week, via Origins, but I’m sitting here, working, instead of having fun in Ohio. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what good stuff is new and shiny in C-bus.
- Next week, Kosmos will be releasing a couple new games in their Exit: The Game series. Dead Man on the Orient Express will have you racing against time to solve a murder on your train, while The Sunken Treasure traps you underwater while exploring a shipwreck.
