The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending May 11, 2018.
- Event registration for Gen Con opened this past weekend. Did you get everything you had on your wish list? Some of it at least? Our annual event, Game with GeekDad, is nearly sold out already, so if you haven’t signed up yet, do it soon—there are just a handful of seats left!
- Z-Man has acquired the game Love Letter from AEG. As Asmodee companies gather all the things, it will be interesting to see what Z-Man can do with Seiji Kanai’s game.
- Z-Man also announced the upcoming Race to the New Found Land. The worker placement/area control game pits the European superpowers of the age of sail against each other to stake their flags and claim glory for their countries!

- Wait! Were we talking about Asmodee buying all the things? Yesterday, Reuters reported anonymous sources who suggested Eurazeo SE, the equity firm that owns Asmodee, was positioning the company for a sale. Initial estimates put the price tag at $1.7 billion. No word on if the sale will be governed by MAPP policies.
- James Hudson has joined Skybound Entertainment as the Senior Director of Tabletop Games and he’s bringing Druid City Games with him. The imprint, which until this week consisted of Superfight, Red Flag, and other titles (Clue, Bang!, Monopoly, etc.) rebranded as The Walking Dead, looks to expand under Hudson and will be co-publishing all Druid City games.
- This morning, CMON announced a game based on the Netflix hit, Narcos. Details are limited right now, but one player will play as El Patrón, while the others will be hunting him. The game is scheduled to be released in Q4 of this year and will be on display at CMON Expo in May.
- The Internet was all wound up this week over allegations that Scythe artist, Jakub Rozalski, had copied other people’s artwork when working on the very popular 4X game. Stonemaier’s Jamey Stegmaier met these charges head-on in an open and transparent manner. Right now, it doesn’t look like there’s anything more to this than allegations. What do you think?
- Renegade announced Circus Puppy, a quick-playing dexterity game, coming this summer. Who’s a good dog? The game is designed by Aza Chen, who also did the art for this game, as well as three other Renegade titles: Doggy Go!, Kitty Paw, and Shiba Inu House.
- Coming up this next week, keep an eye open for Lucidity: Six-Sided Nightmares, a horror-ish dice game. The dice look amazing in this game, which is scheduled to be on shelves next Wednesday.
