Her main series may have ended last week, but after almost a year of setup, it’s Supergirl’s turn to shine in Injustice 2 #24. In an action-packed issue that features strong moments for multiple characters, Amazo continues to rampage across Delhi as part of Ra’s attempt to depopulate the world.
Animal Man, Vixen, Damian, and new ally Jason Todd track down Professor Ivo, Amazo’s inventor and Ra’s hostage, to try to get him to deactivate it, but Ivo has been forced to obey Ra’s for the sake of his family. Jason reveals that his family is already dead, attempting to push him into taking action, but Ivo doesn’t believe there’s anything that can be done to stop the robot, just slow it down. With Plastic Man and son (nearly immortal) doing their best to hold Amazo, Damian puts out a distress call to Supergirl to get her to join the fight.
Before Kara arrives on the scene, Booster and Jaime Reyes show up, and Jaime’s powerful alien weaponry manages to slow Amazo down briefly. Kara leaves Khandaq, tackles Amazo, and plows him right into the moon, setting up one of the best fights in this volume of the series.
Although the issue has great spotlights for a lot of people, and gives Professor Ivo a decent ending to his storyarc as a patsy of Ra’s, it’s Kara who really gets to show off here, displaying how powerful both her heat vision and freeze breath are as she does what Zod couldn’t and finishes Amazo off. As Jaime points out at the end of the issue, a heroic Kryptonian being back in play for the good guys is a massive game changer, and it’ll be particularly interesting to see how she interacts with Superboy, who is now wearing Superman’s costume. It feels like there’s a bit more hope in the Injusticeverse again.
