The second Batman/Turtles miniseries comes to a close, as the heroes of both sides team up for a final battle against Bane in Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 .

From the start, you can see that plotter Tynion and scripter Ferrier are clearly fans of the Turtles and their various versions, as they pull the Turtle Blimp out of storage for the opening scene as Donatello flies towards Bane’s headquarters at the Statue of Liberty, with the other Turtles and their allies playing backup. The Turtles are armed with anti-venom that removes the new powers from Bane’s minions, and that allows them to plow through his army and get right to the man in charge. Meanwhile, Batman, Splinter, and their temporary ally Shredder are able to use their ninja skills to get to the crown and confront Bane personally. Their first target? His venom supply.

A lot of this issue is devoted to fighting, and a lot of that is devoted to getting rid of the influence of venom so it can be a fair fight. That makes the issue feel a little bit one-note at times, as Bane’s plot to take over New York through brute strength was never as interesting as the alliance of Shredder and Ra’s Al Ghul to create a mutated army in the first volume.

The final battle has some good moves, but overall Bane was built up basically into a Kaiju thanks to his new cocktail of venom and mutagen, and he seems to go down a bit easier by comparison. The issue’s best moments are in the quieter moments, such as Raphael and Damian’s ongoing snarking and just how Batman got Shredder to cooperate with their plan. I also liked the last scene, with Batman’s gift for Donatello. If there’s a third volume of this crossover, it might be a good idea to bring in some of the more out-there concepts from the Turtles’ history, like Krang or the Mutanimals.
