Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News for Week 17 of 2018

The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending April 27, 2018.

The event catalog is now open for Gen Con. Start finding the events you’ll want to attend in Indy in a few months and be sure to save some time for us. GeekDad is trying out a more family-friendly slot this year: Saturday from 12-2. Come play games with us!
Here’s a unique take on crossover games. Chronicles of Crime (previously on Kickstarter) is now available and melds board games with virtual reality. In the game, you’ll use your smartphone and included mini VR glasses to search for clues in this cooperative crime investigation game from Lucky Duck.
Fantasy Flight previews the Snowtrooper unit expansion for Star Wars: Legion. Complete with heavy weaponry like a flamethrower, they are sure to root out rebel scum.

Fantasy Flight also announced that they are developing a digital version of Mansions of Madness in a third person adventure called Mother’s Embrace that’s unlike anything they’ve done before.

Grey Fox Games is introducing a new imprint called Social Sloth, which will feature games that are more relaxing for families and friends. The first game under the new imprint will be Creatures and Cupcakes from Daryl Andrews (Sagrada) and will be a cutesy press-your-luck affair.
Asmodee announced an expansion for T.I.M.E Stories, Brotherhood of the Coast, set in the pirate-rich 1600s Caribbean.
The new Carcassonne gets its sixth expansion in Count, King & Robber. The expansion seems to mirror the same sixth expansion as in the older version, but with the newer art.
Z-Man also announced the pre-order for their first Choose Your Own Adventure game, House of Danger. In the card-based game, you’ll use your wits and a deck of cards to unravel a psychic mystery.
Drop It is a new game from Thames & Kosmos that seems inspired by Connect Four. Drop different geometric shapes, but avoid touching matching shapes and colors.

CMON has an expansion for Lozenzo Il Magnifico called Houses of Renaissance. In the add-on, you’ll get another family member plus new specializations for your family, the option to add a fifth player, and a whole lot more. Look for it at game stores beginning today.
Also scheduled to hit shelves next week are the most anticipated game ever to boast an alpaca standee, Altiplano, from Renegade, the dance-themed successor to Happy Salmon, Funky Chicken (I’m soooo excited!), Decrypto, a spy-themed deduction game from Iello, and the Roll Player expansion, Monsters and Minions.

Jonathan Liu wrote about (deep inhale) Kickstarters for Filler, a tiny, pastry-themed game from Green Couch; The Pirate’s Flag, a take that game on the high seas with some nice ship minis; and Growl, a social deduction game with some very unusual packaging. He also wrote about Welcome To …, a roll & write game for 1 to 100 players and currently in pre-order; Millennium Blades, a game based on the CCG; and Space Base, “fleet management game,” which is like Machi Koro in space.
