The widely anticipated space western Solo: A Star Wars Story is almost upon us. In celebration, LEGO has announced another wave of products featuring the characters and elements in the movie. We covered the Brickheadz recently, but we have new pictures and facts for the other sets, released and available today.
Imperial Patrol Battle Pack

Explore the world of Imperial law enforment with the Imperial Patrol Battle Pack. This kit features a speeder with stud shooters, an Emigration Officer, Recruitment Officer, and two Imperial Patrol Troopers. The price puts it beyond the 10-cent rule, but considering the number of minifigures, it’s really not a surprise. The kit includes stud blasters for each of the minifigures, because really, what Imperial militant would miss the opportunity to miss every shot?
Landspeeders
As much as I’ve tried to avoid spoilers, the simple truth is that I keep finding myself drawn to a promised high-speed chase. All we can hope, though, is that a racer this cool doesn’t go down the treacherous cinematic path of the much-abused pod races from Episode 1. Hopefully, the film models the path of Rey’s Speeder from Jakku or Luke’s Landspeeder. There seem to be two landspeeders in Solo, one for Han and one for Moloch, an upcoming character introduced in the film.
Han Solo’s Landspeeder

The first landspeeder seats Han Solo and Qi’ra, with a Corellian hound hanging about. There are wheels tucked away underneath to create a hover effect, along with hidden compartments, spring-loaded shooters, and ammo for the various weapons. The cost is entirely reasonable at just over 8 cents/brick, including multiple minifigs. Of course, I have to admit that I find the design entirely pleasing to the eye.
Moloch’s Landspeeder

The antagonist’s landspeeder features hidden wheels for a hover effect, and has a 6-stud rapid shooter. Moloch is included, along with an additional two Corellian hounds. The price is reasonable at 8 cents/brick, well below my cost threshold. With more pieces and a beefier build, this landspeeder definitely feels more prepared for action than Han Solo’s.
Imperial TIE Fighter

This set is a close second to the Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (see below) for my favorite kit in this series. The TIE Fighter is over 9 inches tall, and comes with four minifigures: an Imperial Pilot, Han Solo, Tobias Beckett, and a Mimban Stormtrooper. This piece also fits with any other LEGO Star Wars sets you have, since the TIE Fighter is such an iconic and recurring element of the franchise. The weak point is the cost, though. At 13 cents/brick, the real value of this set is ultimately in the play/display quality. If you’ll use it and/or enjoy looking at it, then the cost per brick is, as ever, less important.
Kessel Run Millennium Falcon

The Millenium Falcon, everyone’s favorite Corellian freighter, makes a less grungy appearance as its younger self in Solo. This enormous kit (over 18 inches long) is complete with a tricked-out cockpit, gunner stations, a rec area, weapons galore, and seven minifigures.
Various parts of the Millennium Falcon open up to reveal a highly detailed interior including a cargo bay with two containers, a computer, a couch, a Dejarik hologame table, a bar, a bunk, missile storage, and a hyperdrive with repair tools.
The minifigures included are Han Solo, Chewbacca, Qi’ra, Lando Calrissian, Kessel Guard and a Kessel Operations Droid, plus a DD-BD droid. Accessories include pistols, a blaster rifle, electrobinoculars, and Lando’s signature blaster.
Buildable Figures
Two new buildable figures are also making their debut today. The younger Han Solo plays opposite an enemy Range Trooper, each with their own weapons, fully articulated bodies, and posable limbs. I’ve never found this line of products terribly compelling, but they aren’t designed for people like me, I think. That said, I have limited experience with measuring the value of these kits, as they don’t fit my typical 10-cent rule, like, at all.
Han Solo

Range Trooper

The Range Trooper features unique clothing options, notably, it’s tough armor and “magnetic boot” detailing, furry shoulder cloak, and tunic. Of course, it also includes a blaster weapon with spring-loaded shooter.
