This morning, LEGO announced new pieces for their Star Wars and BrickHeadz lines with Han Solo and Chewbacca Brickheadz based on the characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story. These two new sets will be available April 13th.
Han Solo
Set: 41608, 141 pieces | Ages 10+
$9.99 USD
This LEGO® BrickHeadz™ Han Solo is an adorable-but-stoic version of his on-screen self. This kit includes Han’s utility belt, brown jacket, and a hand-held blaster.
- Han Solo model stands over 2” (7cm) tall without baseplate.
- Baseplate measures over 1” (4cm) square.
- At $9.99, this kit is well within the 10-cent rule, especially considering the number of specialty pieces.
Chewbacca
Set: 41609, 149 pieces | Ages 10+
$9.99 USD
This LEGO® BrickHeadz™ Chewbacca features an ammunition belt, fur-like details, and a detachable blaster. Unfortunately, they seem to have the nose on upside down. (Easily redeemable, however.)
- Chewbacca toy stands over 2” (7cm) tall without baseplate.
- Baseplate measures over 1” (4cm) square.
- Also at $9.99, this kit is well within the 10-cent rule, especially considering the number of specialty pieces.
- This Chewbacca looks similar enough to most other versions to not be singled out by the upcoming film, making it a great gift for fans of any chapter of the Star Wars sagas.
The kits in real life:
Building these kits was kind of fun. I’ve never done anything with Brickheadz before, so it was a bit of a treat to try out the system. The construction of these two figures were very similar, but each featured a number of specialized pieces I don’t reckon are common (if available at all) in other sets. Each has specific art for the chest (and back for Chewy) and blasters of different designs for each of them.
The biggest thing I noted for either of them is that I wasn’t pleased with Chewbacca’s face. For one, his nose is upside down. For another, the two-pip unfinished look above the nose irked me. I spun the nose around and found that the point hovered over air, so I replaced the piece behind the nose with two sloped elements as you can see in the picture. This gave the nose a much more natural and character-accurate appearance, in my opinion.
Of course, until we see the film in May, I can’t comment too specifically on the accuracy of representation for the characters, but as it’s Chewy and Han, I think they’re generally on point. 10/10, would buy.
TL;DR
The Han Solo and Chewbacca LEGO Brickheadz are adorable, reasonably priced, and a great gift for yourself or your Star Wars loving geek(s). You can order both Han Solo and Chewbacca on Amazon, though they are currently more expensive than the MSRP of $9.99.
