Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News for Week 10 of 2018

Featured Gaming Re-Roll Tabletop Games

The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending March 9, 2018.

  • Terraforming Mars, a breakout hit over the past couple of years, is about to become a lot more accessible. We’ve mentioned it before, but now it will be available “soon” on iOS, Android, and Steam from Asmodee Digital. This is the same language they used with Scythe last month, which is still awaiting release, so “soon” may be a ways off. Still, can’t wait for it to drop!
  • Want to learn more about Kids on Bikes, the new RPG from Renegade Game Studios? They ran a hangout on Wednesday night with John Gilmour, one of the game’s designers. Watch it here.
  • CMON announced another chapter in Zombicide, this time… in… space! Zombiecide: Invader will send players to another planet and will be coming to Kickstarter on April 10.
  • This week’s image is from Dokmus (read our review).
  • Looney Labs has been finding all sorts of ways to repurpose their card game Fluxx. We love that so many of the latest iterations have been education based, as will the just-announced version, Anatomy Fluxx, with brains and guts and all the things that get kids thinking about their insides.
  • Feel like pillaging but don’t have a ton of time? Iello has a new Viking game, Raids, which will have you battling fellow Vikings and looting gold and runes, all in 40 minutes or less.
  • Another game that will be here soon is Thanos Rising from USAopoly. It will be a cooperative dice and card game as you join forces to try to defeat this titan before he collects all six Infinity Stones.
  • On shelves next week, you’ll find copies of Byzanz, which was a 2009 Golden Geek nominee at BGG for best card game. It’s drafting and hand management in Byzantium in this reprint from Renegade Game Studios.
  • That’s it this week. Maybe everyone has spent all their money on Batman; there’s not much news.

At GeekDad, we write a lot about tabletop games. Here’s what we’ve written about this past week:

  • Robin Brooks zagged a bit and put up a game review for his Word Wednesday column. Awesome! We love game reviews! This one is for Mysthea, which is up on Kickstarter now.
  • Liubot is back from the robot repair shop and firing on all circuits, wonderfully functional again with three Kickstarter game reviews. The first, Swordcrafters, will have you building physical, 3-D swords. The second, from Druid City (Grimm Forest, read our review), is a wizard-based game called Sorcerer City. The third is for a colorful and pretty game called Darkness, that seems anything but—it’s a light bluffing game, good for the whole family.
  • Anthony Karcz is still painting minis. This week it’s a stormtrooper atop a dewback. I think he’s improving every week. What do you think?
  • Ryan Hiller was aghast at the news of a Pathfinder 2.0 playtest and also provided a (minorly spoilerly) preview of the Pathfinder Adventure Path, War for the Crown.
  • Rob Huddleston previewed a Kickstarter game called Flip & Find’s Diner, a memory game with ingredients.

Finally, here’s what some of the GeekDad Crew has been playing this week:

  • Jonathan Liu: Sorcerer City, Songbirds, Fire in the Library, Clank! The Mummy’s Curse, Good Dog Bad Zombie, Quartermaster General: Alternate Histories, Round House, Swordcrafters, Thunderstone Quest
  • Robin Brooks: Shaperise, Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire, Go Nuts for Donuts, Outfoxed, Monkey Bingo
  • Dave Banks: Capital Lux, Explorers of the North Sea, Happy Salmon
