The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending February 23, 2018.
- Gen Con is anticipating selling all their passes again this year, possibly sooner than last year’s sellout. So if you want to go, get a badge soon!

- Ahh yeah, baby! Paul Peterson’s Smash Up has a groovy new expansion on the way. That ’70s Expansion will give you access to Truckers, Disco Dancers, Vigilantes, and Kung Fu Fighters. And the best part? It will be available next month!
- This week’s image is from Meeple Circus.
- What’s Re-Roll without some FFG Star Wars-related news? This week it’s a preview of the AT-RT expansion for Star Wars: Legion. You know what’s neat? We’re starting to see release dates for this stuff. Look for this expansion on March 22.
- If you enjoyed Dinosaur Island, you’ll be excited to learn that Pandasaurus will be releasing a two-player game set in the same environment. Duelosaur Island will feature new mechanics and be available later this year for $34.95.
- Roll For It! (read our review) is an awesome, family-friendly dice game. Today, it’s now out on mobile devices. (You get to shake your phone or tablet to roll the dice!) Check out the trailer below (with a bit of the Ludwig van at the end) and then head over to the App Store or Google Play to get a copy.
- V-Commandos (read our review) is now available in the UK. The gorgeous, cooperative WWII game launched on Kickstarter back in 2014 and is worth checking out.
- The amazing and wonderful Rory’s Story Cubes is going to see a Star Wars set this fall. (The first of many sets, likely.) Look for the storytelling dice in Q3.
- Renegade will have an exclusive Tabletop Day (April 28) game. Wonderland, from Daniel Solis, will be a quick playing card game, focusing on area control, set in the world of Alice’s Wonderland.
- Osprey Games announced Wildlands, a miniatures board game from prolific designer Martin Wallace and featuring factions fighting over a once-great kingdom.
- At Toy Fair, Gamewright announced Forbidden Sky, arriving at Gen Con and again by Matt Leacock.
- Also at Toy Fair, Gale Force Nine was showing off a black box with no art on it, save… the Dungeons & Dragons logo. The game is tied to modules coming out this fall, so details are scarce for now, but look for GF9’s game to release at Gen Con for around 50 bucks.
- Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal is now available on shelves. End, begin, all the same. Big change. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad.
- Some other games headed your way next week include a reprint of the casual version of Evolution called Evolution: The Beginning (read our review), Moa, a beautiful area control game from Martin Wallace, News@11, a storytelling game from Floodgate, and Pocket Mars, a clever little terraforming game that, true to the title, will fit in your pocket.
