The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending January 5, 2018.
- Hey, kids, did Santa bring you some fun, new games? Did you play a lot over the holidays? We sure did–and we enjoyed some relaxing time off too. However, it’s time to get back to work. So, here we go…
- Stonemaier announced the final expansion for Scythe. The Rise of Fenris introduces 11 modules and an 8 game campaign, as well as 13 minis, 62 wooden tokens, 2 custom dice, and over 100 pieces of cardboard. Awesome!
- This week’s image is from jumbo Takenoko.
- CMON is going to be publishing Victorian Masterminds, a very anticipated title from Eric M. Lang and Antoine Bauza.
- It’s also about ten days until CMON releases their next big game on Kickstarter. HATE is a miniatures game (also from Eric M. Lang) about gumdrops and puppies and love and getting along. Or maybe the exact opposite of that–it is one of the first games we’ve seen that carries a mature rating and is based on the graphic novels, Chronicles of HATE.
- Hide your wallets; Star Wars: Legion is on the way. More information is becoming available on how to play and Fantasy Flight has recently given us previews as to how movement and battle will work.
- Pandemic: Rising Tide is now available. It’s like Pandemic, but instead of diseases across the world, it’s flooding in the Netherlands. You’ve always wanted to simulate hydraulic pumps while gaming, haven’t you?
- Game Salute is launching three new imprints, meant to break their products into telltale lines. Starling Games will be for heavier strategy games aimed at hobby gamers, Sparkworks will be for more accessible games, and Flying Meeple will be for kid and family games.
- Someone sent me this awesome article about Magic: The Gathering. Even if you don’t play, it’s a fascinating look at how the phenomenon came to be.
- The newly formed Deepwater Games and Distribution announced a partnership with EmperorS4 to bring a lot of games from Asia to the US. The first four titles expected for 2018 are Herbalism, Shadows in Kyoto, Crows Overkill, and Hanzi. Deepwater also has plans to develop its own games in-house, so stay tuned!
- We loved Downforce last year and we are excited to see it get an expansion. Danger Circuit will bring a new board, along with six new player powers–look for it this summer.
- One of our favorite games from Gen Con last year was Decrypto. It’s a word game coming in March from Iello and Scorpion Masqué and it has a trailer. (Of course!) Check it out:
