Where are my Studio Ghibli fans?

<GeekDad and GeekMom readers from all over the place raises hands. You know you’re a fan!>

We here at GeekDad and GeekMom are pleased to get a lead on an upcoming premiere from the newly-formed Studio Ponoc, a film adaptation of Mary Stewart’s 1971 children’s book The Little Broomstick. In Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Hiromasa Yonebayoshi, the Academy Award-nominated director of The Secret World of Arrietty, brings to life the story of Mary, who discovers a magical flower that grants powers for only one night.

Mary and the Witch’s Flower is coming to theaters through Fathom Events on Thursday, January 18th, at select U.S. theaters. A few theaters will continue the showings, but most will be offering the film for only one night. The English dubbed version of this film will feature an all-star voice cast including Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent. Fans have a choice of seeing the dubbed version at 7pm (local time) and the Japanese version with English subtitles at 8pm.

(Perhaps, as a die-hard Studio Ghibli fan, you’re feeling somewhat…guilty?…that you might be enthused about this film? Don’t worry! Hiyao Miyazaki approves of his protegé’s debut creation!)

Interested? Stay tuned at GeekDad: next week we are planning a giveaway for ONE pair of tickets to the one-night showing of Mary and the Witch’s Flower at a Fathom Events theater of your choice! For now, enjoy this subtitled trailer:
