Trailer Theater: Giants, Hulks, Dinosaurs, and More

Entertainment Featured Movies Television Trailer Theater

The last couple of weeks have given us some pretty incredible previews of big-time genre fare. From dinosaurs and giants to Miles Morales and the Avengers, this week’s edition of Trailer Theater has 14 trailers that may just get you excited for 2018.

Coming soon to a theater near you…

Ready Player One – The second trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel is rich with Easter eggs. See if you can spot King Kong, Joker and Harley Quinn, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Tracer from Overwatch, and prepare for an onslaught of cameos and Easter eggs when the movie hits theaters on March 30th.

Jurassic World: Fallen KingdomJurassic World was a MEGA-HIT, so why wouldn’t they do another? Let’s see if Chris Pratt and company can sustain the popularity when Fallen Kingdom hits on June 22nd. Bonus points for bringing Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) back!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s animated take on the Spider-verse promises to finally introduce Miles Morales on the big-screen. I’ll also be looking for Peter Porker (AKA Spider-Ham) when this one releases around Christmas of 2018.

Annihilation – The first full trailer for Alex Garland’s adaptation of the first book in Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy looks terrifying and fantastic. Check it out when it hits theaters in February.

Incredibles 2 – Finally! Look for this to be the summer’s big animated hit.

A Wrinkle in Time – Ava DuVernay and Disney look to have created a visually stunning adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved novel.  Time is set to wrinkle on March 9th.

Avengers: Infinity WarAge of Ultron was just ok, so I’m really hoping Infinity War knocks it out of the park. It will definitely be exciting to see Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and the Guardians joining up with the Avengers as they return to the big-screen in May.

The Road Movie – In today’s Fail Army obsessed YouTube generation, this edited collection of Russian dashboard camera videos looks like a surreal trip into chaos.

Birdboy: The Forgotten Children – GKIDS continues to push the boundaries of beautiful, socially relevant animation with its latest feature.

Coming soon to a streaming device or TV…

Black Mirror Season 4 – Like every season of Black Mirror, season 4 looks incredible. There’s even a classic Star Trek themed episode this time around. It will be hard to top last year’s “San Junipero,” but I’m hoping they come close when Black Mirror returns to Netflix on December 29th.

Altered Carbon – Cyberpunk comes to Netflix in a new sci-fi series based on Richard Morgan’s novel set 500 years in the future. Altered Carbon premiers on February 2nd.

Batman Ninja – An anime Batman. What more is there to know?

Here and Now – Alan Ball brought both Six Feet Under and True Blood to HBO. Here and Now brings him back, and for a family drama, which is precisely where he thrives. Here and Now will premiere on HBO in February.

André The Giant | ‘He Was A God’ – André The Giant is a legend. Be it in the ring, in the movies (The Princess Bride), or immortalized in street art ( Shepard Fairey’s Obey), he is one of pop-culture’s most storied figures. About time he got his own documentary. The new doc is set to hit HBO this spring.
