Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News for Week 49 December 2-8, 2017

Featured Gaming Re-Roll Tabletop Games

The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending December 8, 2017.

  • Please note, this will be the last Re-Roll for 2017. Things are winding down and I’m going on vacation. We shall reconvene in the new year. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you and thank you for reading!
  • This week’s image is 12 Days from Calliope Games.
  • We got together and played all of the finalists for our Game of the Year this past weekend. In fact, that’s about all we did last weekend–play and play and play. We’ve made a decision about which is our winner and we will announce that… next week.
  • IDW showed off a preview of the upcoming Missile Command. It won’t be available until March, but it looks promising and a bit unexpected.
  • APE Games has Moa on the way from some designer named Martin Wallace. (Is he a newcomer? What has he done?) It’s birds against mammals in this fast-playing area control game. The game was previously Kickstarted and will be on shelves next week.
  • Another Kickstarted game, Divinity Derby, makes its way to tables and shelves next week. This one is a betting and card drafting with some shared cards among some divine friends on Mount Olympus. Read our review.
  • Dear travelers, Tokaido is now available on Steam. It’s fun and very pretty. What more do you want?
  • Mansions of Madness is going to get another expansion. This one is called Sanctum of Twilight, which is scary enough. It includes a couple of digital adventures when paired with the app.
  • The classic abstract strategy game, Abalone, comes to all digital platforms this week. The game is loosely based on sumo wrestling and is a fun little challenge that supports online play.
  • Speaking of FFG, their new digital division has a major announcement coming out tomorrow morning. It’s a big title that you will recognize and probably be pretty excited about. So keep an eye out tomorrow!
  • Iello revealed a new light strategy game that will be coming out in the spring. This one is called The Legend of the Cherry Tree that Blossoms Every Ten Years. How’s that for a mouthful? It’s a press your luck set collector that promises to be beautiful too.
  • Renegade has two games coming out next week. The first, Kepler-3042, was originally Kickstarted but has been the beneficiary of a Renegade overhaul. I played it this weekend with Jonathan, and it is a pretty fun economic space exploration game. The other, Pie Town, is a deceptively deep worker placement from first-time designer Daniel Fregman. I’ll have a review of it early next week.
  • Finally, a game called Charterstone hits stores in the US next week. It’s very good. So good that it made our lists of finalists for Game of the Year. It’s legacy gaming for the whole family and full of surprises. Read our review.

At GeekDad, we write a lot about tabletop games. Here’s what we’ve written about this past week:

  • Jonathan wrote about Cursed Court, a wagering and deduction game with pointy crowns, and he also looked at the Kickstarter for Kill the Unicorns, which is just… well… I don’t know what to say. Take a look at the review. Wow.
