The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending December 1, 2017.

  • The History of the World came out in 1991 (no, not the one with Mel Brooks, the one from Avalon Hill). It’s getting an overhaul from Z-Man and Ragnar Brothers—Steve Kendall, Gary Dicken, and Phil Kendall—in early 2018. If this kind of news gets you fired up, be sure to check out the Q&A Ragnar Brothers did.
  • When you read this, a number of us will be on our way to play our finalists for Game of the Year. We’ll be playing all weekend and, at the conclusion, we will have picked a winner. Look for an announcement soon!
  • CMON announced a long-term partnership with Steve Jackson Games to bring Munchkin to a variety of board game titles. Early word is that the first game will supposedly be a rethemed Arcadia Quest. Will we see John Kovalic’s funny figures as mini? Yes, please!
  • While everyone is suggesting all manner of things for their holiday gift guides—movies, gadgets, games, and more—Fantasy Flight took a different tact, providing a very unique gift guide for Fallout fans.
  • FFG also has a sneak preview of the upcoming TIE Silencer for the X-Wing Miniatures Game. That ship looks sharp!
  • Plaid Hat has outsourced their how-to-play video for Stuffed Fables to the always professional, always capable Rodney Smith. Want to learn the basics of this co-op fairytale game? Go have a look!
  • Hitting shelves this week is the 4X game from Portal Games, Alien Artifacts, a sci-fi strategic card game from the makers of Robinson Crusoe and First Martians.
  • Carcassonne (a new version) is now out for PC (via Steam) and Android. Expansions on the way!
  • Asmodee Digital announced they would be bringing Gloom to digital in March. How sad!
  • On the way next week, the next expansion of Scythe, The Wind Gambit. It’s actually two expansions in one and not only includes some new resolutions but some freaking cool airships! (The airships were originally a fan-made expansion).
  • Finally (and finally!) more of the North Seas Saga will be shipping (heh) next week. Look for expansions to Raiders of the North Sea, Fields of Fame and Hall of Heroes, as well as Shipwrights of the North Sea and its expansion, The North Sea Runesaga.
