Today, we’re talking sports. And when we branch into a new topic with a new guest, we don’t cheap out. That’s why we’re talking to arguably the best player in the history of basketball. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar needs no introduction, and any bio I’d even attempt here would pale in comparison to reality. You know who he is.
In the years since retirement, Kareem has become a prolific author, and his newest book is Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court. It’s a middle grade memoir that doesn’t pull any punches and is WELL worth your time, regardless of how old you are. In addition to books about his career, he’s also written a number of graphic novels about Mycroft Holmes!
On this episode, we talk about Becoming Kareem, the enduring messages of the book, how history seems to be repeating itself, the Take a Knee movement in professional sports, the Skyhook Foundation, and where the Presidential Medal of Freedom ranks in a lifetime of achievements.
