I imagine that—like me—you were ecstatic when Disney XD re-launched one of the greatest cartoon series of all time, DuckTales, with a stellar new voice cast and an undeniable visual style. Well, if you missed out on the original series premiere back in August—again, like me—a new DVD release from Buena Vista Home Entertainment is here to take you back to Duckburg.

Available now, DuckTales: Woo-oo! contains the titular 44-minute kick-off episode, introducing fans young and old to David Tennant’s Scrooge McDuck; Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey, and Louie; and Garfunkel and Oates’ Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack. It’s a whirlwind (hurricane?) adventure that takes us from Uncle Donald’s houseboat all the way to the underwater city of Atlantis, with stop-overs in Scrooge’s famous money bin, of course. We even get a dash of longtime nemesis Flintheart Glomgold, now voiced by Keith Ferguson.

DuckTales: Woo-oo! also includes six shorts spotlighting the major players—including Mrs. Beakley and Launchpad but not, weirdly enough, Dewey or Louie—in its “Welcome to Duckburg” bonus feature. It’s a short but solid supplementary offering that further showcases the unique flavor of the re-imagined series.

The only problem with this DVD? It’s just a taste. Hopefully, more home media releases are to follow, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for a full season one collection at some point. Still, if you and your family are presently DuckTales deprived, DuckTales: Woo-oo! is a worthy holiday pickup at its sub-$10 price point.
