Well, this is it. This month is the last of the six-film series for Studio Ghibli Fest 2017. Fathom Events will be partnering with their theaters to present the 2004 film Howl’s Moving Castle on November 26, 27, and 29. Since this event is happening Thanksgiving weekend (in the U.S.), I think this would be a perfect activity with any extended family in town.

This particular movie is near and dear to my heart because Miyazaki wanted to tell a story about the effects of war, through young people’s eyes. This is a more complex story, with audiences guessing who’s the hero and who’s the villain. Also, like many of Miyazaki’s other Studio Ghibli films, there’s a lesson in the importance of honoring and respecting one’s elders (a lesson I hope my sons are picking up with their favorite Studio Ghibli movies). This film is rated PG for some scenes of mild violence, and Common Sense Media recommends Howl’s for ages 8 and up.
