The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending November 10, 2017.
- This week’s image is the first player token from Pretending to Grownup.
- Next week presents a real challenge; it’s dueling game conferences as BGG.Con takes place in Dallas and PAX Unplugged opens its doors for the first time in Philadelphia. While it’s tough to choose which one to attend, a real game fan would charter a plane to hit up both. Well, in my dreams, maybe.
- Cryptozoic is bullish on BGG.com next weekend. They’re going to be showing off DC Deck-Building Game: Confrontations, Teen Titans Go! Deck-Building Game, Rick and Morty: Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind Deck-Building Game, Crossover Crisis: Animation Annihilation Deck-Building Game, and Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Melee at Murdershroom Marsh. (Please note this last one is not a deck-builder.)
- If you want to look a bit further down the road for cons, CMON Expo is now open for registrations, May 1-13 in 2018.
- Renegade Game Studios had a big announcement this week. They picked up the license to publish Antiplano over here. Antiplano had immense buzz coming out of Essen, so it’s great that we’ll all have a chance to play it at the beginning of 2018.
- Just in time for the holidays, Rio Grande will be dropping Santa’s Workshop, a worker placement game. I don’t know anything about it, other than it’s the first game for designer Keith Ferguson, but it’s a great theme for worker placement and I am looking forward to it.
- Catan Stories: The Legend of the Sea Robbers is now available on iOS and Android mobile devices. It’s a text-based game based on the Catan expansion. Crazy.
- Richard the Lionheart makes its way to shelves next week from CMON. It promises to be an interesting battle between teams and individual goals. Check out this article to learn more about that dynamic.
- Want a more in-depth preview of the Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch? You should because if you’ve checked the weather the last couple days, you can see that winter is, indeed, coming.
- A few other games showing up at your FLGS next week include Dungeon Draft from Upper Deck (expect a review from us soon), the hidden movement game Last Friday gets an expansion, Return to Camp Apache, and the beautiful and fun bluffing/set collection Campy Creatures, which had previously been on Kickstarter (read our review).

- Jonathan Liu wrote about a Kickstarter for HeroTec, which lets you be Q for a bunch of superheroes, Dino Dude Ranch: Hatchlings, which is an expansion on Kickstarter, Ravine, a survival card game project from the group that brought us the awesome Spaceteam, and he also told us about a more fleshed out version of an old game. Looney Labs is bringing us a full box set for Zendo, one of the Pyramid games from the past.
- I wrote about Hotshots, a cooperative firefighting game with awesome tokens that plays a little like a family-oriented Pandemic.
