The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending November 3, 2017.

  • The rulebook for the updated version of Reiner Knizia’s Through the Desert is online now. Read up so you’ll be ready to play later this year.
  • This week’s image is of three six-sided dice.
  • If you want to get an early copy of Charterstone, head over to BGG where Stonemaier has 10 games available in a charity auction. And before you bid, read our spoiler-free review.
  • Passport Game Studios is bringing back the highly ranked strategy game Antiquity, originally published by Splotter Spellen. A limited number will be available at BGGcon, so it you want one, sign up now.
  • The Voyages of Marco Polo gets its first ever expansion with Agents of Venice, which adds two modules, adds a fifth player, and lots of contracts, goals, characters, and other thirteenth century goodness!
  • It’s been a while since Carcassonne had a Big Box release, so I suppose it’s time again. The new Carcassonne Big Box is out now and features the base game and 11 expansions–over 150 tiles–in a box that’s, well, huge. It features the new art, but you can still mix and match with your old tiles.
  • One of the most popular Looney Pyramid games, Zendo, is being re-released. This Mensa Select winner has been refined and blocks and wedges join pyramids in this version, which will release in December. Preorder now.
  • Renegade announced Lucidity: Six-Sided Nightmares, a game with horrifying art and 80 custom dice. It’s press your luck excitement as you try to break away from your dreams before the monsters of your nightmares consume you. Will you wake up? Or will you become what you fear most? You can still win by going after the other dreamers. Lucidity hits shelves in Q1 2018.
  • In stores next week, expect to see the wide release of Rob Daviau’s Mountains of Madness from Iello. Also, you’ll be able to find the great little drafting game, Harvest Dice, from Grey Fox.
  • I thought there might be more big announcements out of Essen, but there really wasn’t anything I saw to get excited about. Did I miss anything?

At GeekDad, we write a lot about tabletop games. Here’s what we’ve written about this past week:

  • Robin Brooks had so much to say about Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire that he couldn’t fit it in one post… so he wrote two.
  • Simon Yule released his 30th session report of his Skype-based Curse of Strahd campaign. Will the party ever listen? Read on to find out. He also let everyone know about Critical Role’s Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting, out now.
  • Jonathan Liu told us about the Kickstarter for Fruit Ninja (which has since been cancelled) and another for Echindna Shuffle, which has the awesomest components. Finally, he told us about some games that were actually in stores, Reef Route, from Brain Games, and TerrorEyes from Masked Scorpion and Iello. It has neat components too! Finally, he wrote about Unearth.
  • Rob Huddleston wrote about a light strategy game, Hafid’s Grand Bazaar.

Finally, here’s what some of the GeekDad Crew has been playing this week:

  • Ryan Hiller: Starfinder RPG, Zombicide: Black Plague
  • Robin Brooks: Shadespire, Randomised, Outfoxed
