LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 + GIVEAWAY!

The newly released sequel to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes takes the familiar gameplay of LEGO videogames to a tremendously fun extreme. The game, available today for PlayStation4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, picks up the story right after the original game. There are a few wonderful updates in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 that are sure to be a treat for fans of either Marvel Comics or any of the LEGO franchises.

WB Games provided preview materials for this review, but all opinions are my own.

The visual effects of the game are incredible, even when compared to the first episode of the series—one reviewer pointed out awesome rainbow sparkles that follow some heroes. The visual design also brings game-play to a cinematic level; an early scene features an immense enemy to battle that is so large he cannot be constrained by the borders of the screen.

The setting of the game extends across the cosmos and to Chronopolis, an open hub world crafted from locations from different Marvel Universe stories. While the story plays out in Ancient Egypt, The Old West, Xandar, Sakaar, and New York City in the year 2099, characters from each storyline cross boundaries and interact with each other.

The story mode is non-linear, meaning players can complete chapters in order of their choosing. As the story is completed (and characters are unlocked for use in free-play mode), collection challenges present themselves for additional bonuses and players move towards a battle with Chronopolis’ ruler, the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror.

The single greatest part of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is the roster of playable characters from the Marvel universe. Heroes and villains appear from all of the settings and innumerable storylines from Marvel’s catalog. There are so many characters from so many different stories that we came across some whose existence needed to be fact-checked. The in-game information system is immense, with simple biographies for all the characters and information about locations and vehicles—and it is all presented in a format that looks like comic book frames.
