Jake Botting of WETA Digital

NYCC 2017 offered many opportunities for fans to get close to stars and creators, and WETA Digital of New Zealand had one of the best experiences by letting people experience the science of motion capture in films. Jake Botting is one of the programmers at WETA. Jake has worked for WETA since The Lord of The Rings: Two Towers over 15 years ago. Jake sat down to discuss his history at the company, Planet of the Apes, and what WETA was able to do for the fans at NYCC 2017.

I was fortunate enough to try the MOCAP myself thanks to WETA. The experience was quite fascinating and, even though the tech on site was not the latest in WETA’s arsenal, it gave you the sense of how motion can translate fluidly from a person to the screen.

It was a joy to watch several fans interact with the technology, and I think WETA delivered by far one of the best experiences at NYCC 2017. I look forward to seeing Jake and WETA’s work in the future.
