The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending October 6, 2017.
- I didn’t realize this one was coming out–Richard Garfield has a new bluffing game out this week. Spynet is a small box game from Z-Man where you deploy agents and complete missions. Look for a review in the future!
- This week’s image is from Dimension.
- Fantasy Flight announced the first six dynasty packs for Legend of the Five Rings. The surprise is that they will all be released over just six weeks. Check with your local game store for discounts–some are offering a reduced cost if you prepay for all six.
- Filed under “Uhhhhh … OK.” Sony Pictures said they were in negotiations to acquire the film rights to The Settlers of Catan. Producer Gail Katz said “As huge fans of the game, we’re struck by the endless possibilities of stories that it could inspire,” giving us further reason to despise Hollywood.
- Z-Man also has Majesty: For the Realm on the way. It’s by Marc André (Splendor) and looks promising. It’s part area control, part worker placement, and good looking too. Check out the preview.
- CMON has retooled and rebranded their pledge manager, now called Geekfunder. An explanation and a couple of tutorial videos are only a click away.
- Now available for Android, iOS, and Steam is the digital version of Bottom of the 9th. Just in time for the World Series!
- The digital version of Smash Up is also available to download now. Is there a better combo than Killer Plants and Zombies?
- Ex Libris from Renegade has a release date: October 25. It’s one of my favorite games of late. Get a pre-order in now so you don’t miss out!
- If you love Steve Jackson Games’ Ogre, but are wary of the back problems that the Designer’s Edition might give you, you’ll be happy to find out that the game made its way to Steam this week, which, depending on your laptop’s weight, is up to 21 pounds lighter than the cardboard version.
- Fantasy Flight also touts the release of some new boosters for Star Wars Destiny. Legacies introduces a new die face, card type, and new mechanics.

- Jonathan Liu alerted us to a zombies (not zombies) game called Zero Hour and another called Haunt the House–perfect for October! Finally, he played a non-Kickstarter game–a series, actually–called Deckscape that are escape room card games. Just three this week? We need to take our Liu-bot in for a maintenance, I think.
- I wrote about a new game from Scott Almes called Dicey Peaks, a press-your-luck mountain climbing game (with Yetis!).
- And Robin Brooks alerted us to a Kickstarter for Dice Hospital, which might be where you end up if your climbing on Dicey Peaks goes poorly…
