- The Expanse, from WizKids, is now available. Based on the SyFy program, the 2-4 player game is being called a “shorter Twilight Struggle.” It’s getting good reviews too!
- Passport Games announced a partnership with Spain’s ThunderGryph Games, to begin bringing some of their games to North America. The first three titles will be Tao Long, Pot de Vin, and Dead Man’s Doubloons.
- Clank! In! Space! has a release date: October 25. We played this at Gen Con and fell in love with this version. If you liked a previous version of Clank!, check out this stand-alone game.
- Smash Up is a brilliantly fun game; however, there are so many expansions now, it’s tough to keep track of them all. You won’t need to, once Smash Up: Conquer the Bases with Your Factions hits Steam and mobile next week!
- Speaking of Paul Peterson (he designed Smash Up), you can get another game he was involved with, Pairs, for helping a place that was very smashed up. Make a donation to the Hispanic Federation’s Unidos fund in the amount of $10 or more. You’ll be helping the people of Puerto Rico, who so desperately need assistance, but send a picture of your confirmation along with your shipping address to cheapass.team@gmail.com and they’ll get you a copy of Pairs: Trolls as long as they have a supply. Golf clap to James Ernest and the good folks at Cheapass Games for making this happen.
- Blood Bound, available for pre-order is a bluffing and deduction, horror-themed party game (just in time for Halloween!) from Fantasy Flight. It was a Kennerspiel when first released, but this new version will have all new art, which looks absolutely wonderful.
- Are you an aspiring game designer? If so, you’ll want to check out the Gamecrafter’s new game design assets–illustrations, icons, and designs you can use in your prototypes (or finished games).
- Other new games hitting shelves this next week include Raiders of the North Sea from Renegade; Samurai Gardener, from Osprey; and (soon) King of Tokyo’s Halloween expansion (2E).
At GeekDad, we write a lot about tabletop games. Here’s what we’ve written about this past week:
- Jonathan Liu isn’t really a person; he’s a review-bot we won in a game of Tall Card. Like a good bot, he cranks out content relentlessly. This week, he has a Kickstarter alert for a new version of Tiny Epic Defenders and its first expansion. He’s also got the final product of Stop Thief! from Restoration Games and another Kickstarter, Sunset Over Water, a new game from the team (mostly) that made Herbaceous. - Michael Harrison and his entertaining podcast, The Dice Section, turn their third eye to the Fate of the Elder Gods.
- Robin Brooks takes time off from cleaning his shelves (sorry Robin, low hanging fruit!) to show us an unboxing of Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire. It’s always exciting to see new cardboard!
