Incredible, Immersive Fan Experiences Coming to NYCC

Entertainment Featured Geek Culture

New York Comic Con begins today and runs through this Sunday. It’s four of the crowded, nerdiest days you could spend in the Big Apple. And this year, the number of immersive fan “activations” has skyrocketed. In the past, NYCC has had a great exhibit hall, but it’s always been a bit light on the over-the-top, interactive experiences that have come to define the San Diego experience.

If you’ll be at NYCC this weekend, take a look at some of what’s available and make a point to swing by a few. Don’t just stand in line for panels and autographs all weekend. Have a unique experience you really can’t have anywhere else.

Highlights below:

Westworld Experience Center

Looking for a taste of the luxuries and liberties afforded to Westworld guests? This immersive experience will not disappoint. Some of the park’s most iconic elements await New York Comic Con attendees lucky enough to attend. Westworld: The Experience will be open by appointment only. This event is open to New York Comic Con badge-holders 21 and over — be sure to bring your ID. The appointment desk will pop up in a different location each morning near the Javits Center, with locations being teased and revealed via the Westworld Facebook page and Twitter handle. The appointment desk will be open Thursday, October 5; Friday, October 6; Saturday, October 7; and Sunday, October 8 starting at 9 am ET until all slots for the day have been filled. Appointments will be available each day on a first come, first served basis. This is an ultra-exclusive event with limited appointments available Thursday-Sunday only. The location of Westworld: The Experience will only be revealed to those who are able to secure an appointment.

Museum of Lore

NYCC attendees and horror buffs seeking the ultimate Instagram photo will be thrilled by Amazon Prime Video’s Museum of Lore. In promotion of the new anthology series Lore, this unsettling, picture-perfect experience will take place in the North Concourse of the Javits Center. Inspired by one of the fastest-growing podcasts in the United States, Amazon Prime Video’s Lore activation will uncover some of the most haunting myths of all-time in the most “shareable” way. Guests will be taken through three rooms – “Gene’s Bedroom,” “The Unveiled,” and “The Beast Inside,” each of which will tell a different, blood-curdling tale from Lore all while providing attendees with must-share photo opportunities. The Tick Dangerboat

NYCC attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in a completely explorable, larger-than-life cigarette vessel that will be built out on the convention’s main floor. Dangerboat, the opinionated sidekick and headquarters of The Tick’s Overkill, becomes a prominent meeting destination and character throughout the series storyline in both Season 1 and 2 of the popular original series. Guests will be delighted by hidden surprises within the experience, such as its ability to speak to the occupants themselves, customized promotional items that can be unlocked using their RFID wristbands, lighting affects, emergency alarms, and more. Attendees will depart Dangerboat feeling as if they’ve just stepped into the world of The Tick itself.

Caesar & Maurice Photo Ops: Swing by Booth #102 for a photo with the life-like Caesar and Maurice busts that were used on-set during the filming of War for the Planet of the Apes.

Join Caesar’s Army: Fans will get the opportunity to use arm extensions like the ones used by the Mo-Cap stunt performers and train in the basics of ape-like movements. The demonstration and tutorial will be hosted by Terry Notary (Rocket) and Karin Konoval (Maurice), and fans will be picked at random to participate.

Placing the spotlight on fans, comiXology is putting a twist on their popular trading card promotion with this year’s Comic Book All-Star photo booth. Fans now have the opportunity to get their photo taken with their favorite comic book creators during specified times or take a solo photo all weekend long and join #TeamComics.
