If you live in Portland, Oregon, and you love books (to some people that may be redundant), then you should get your tickets for the Wordstock book festival! It’s on November 11 at the Portland Art Museum and the SW Park Blocks, and there’s a great lineup of authors coming.
Wordstock has been around for many years, though it has undergone a few changes. When I first attended, it took up a lot of space in the Oregon Convention Center and was a full weekend. Then it went on a hiatus in 2014, returning in 2015 in a smaller form—a single day event (with a few associated weekend activities), but it’s starting to grow again. I’ve been provided with a ticket by Literary Arts, and I’m looking forward to attending this year.
This year’s Wordstock includes a book fair, local food trucks, writing workshops, and over 100 authors. A few that I’m looking forward to are Tom Gauld and Tillie Walden (both featured in this Stack Overflow), Maile Meloy (whom I first met and interviewed at Wordstock in 2011), and Mac Barnett (whose kids’ books have appeared on GeekDad many times over the years). My friend Curtis Chen (Waypoint Kangaroo and Kangaroo Too) will be doing a pop-up reading. But one of the joys of Wordstock is, of course, discovering new authors and adding their books to my reading list!
