Fall is officially here, and with it comes the new fall fashion lines from all your favorite retailers. For me, this change of season is particularly exciting because, not only am I a big fan of candy and turkey, I’m always interested in what autumnal designs the fine folks at Sock It to Me are going to roll out.

Just last week, the SITM PR crew–Hey, Charlotte!–favored me with some highlights from their new collection. With October dominated for me by Halloween and Hockey, the dread poisons of “Drink Me” and the on-ice action of “Penalty Shot” were early favorites. New designs for outdoorsmen–like the rustic “Trail Life“–and us indoorsmen–I’m looking at you, “Salutations“–also join the mix. I think the big standout for me, though, is “Gato Libre.” (Masked cat wrestlers are appropriate for any season!)

But that’s not all currently going on at Portland’s Sock It to Me central. This year’s Global Design-A-Sock Contest–the 13th annual, for those keeping score–was a rousing success, garnering over 6,000 entries during the month of September. And the impressive numbers don’t stop there:

  • 500 design entries were hand drawn and mailed.
  • Sock It to Me received entries from more than 77 countries (including Brazil, Russia, Iran, Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Netherlands, India, and Colombia).
  • Contestants ranged from ages 4 to 70, with most between 16 – 28 years old.
  • 69.7% of those who entered the Design-A-Sock Contest were female.

With design ideas running the gamut from mermaids to tardigrades, the celebrity judges certainly have their work cut out for them. And they’ll need to move fast, too, as beginning tomorrow (Monday, October 9th), the final 30 Design-A-Sock Entries will be published on Sock It to Me’s Facebook page for public voting. You’ll have until Friday, October 13th to let your voice be heard, and the winners will be announced on Monday, October 16th.

So, in conclusion, good luck to all the contestants, thanks, as always, to Sock It to Me for keeping our feet fun and fashionable, and I hope this message finds you (and your delicate toesies) safe and toasty.
