Trailer Theater: Nostalgia, Hand-Painted Films, and Creative Indies

It’s been a few weeks since the last Trailer Theater, so there are quite a few exciting previews to share this week, from big budget pop-culture spectacles to creative indies and more.

Coming soon to a theater near you…

Ready Player One – You’ve probably already seen this one since it premiered at San Diego Comic Con last month, but here it is again in case you missed it. With Spielberg at the helm of Ernest Cline’s pop-culture packed story, this first look teaser is chock full of Easter eggs and sci-fi spectacle. Ready Player One hits theaters on March 30th, 2018.

Dave Made a Maze – Just watch the trailer. Imaginative. Innovative. Clever. Dave Made a Maze hits theaters on August 18th.

Suburbicon – What more do you need know other than that Matt Damon stars and George Clooney direct from a script by the Coen Brothers. Suburbicon is due out on October 27th.

Mother! –  This trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s latest is just perfect. It truly teases. No spoiling the movie in the preview. Looks like a thrilling mind-bender featuring a stellar cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Mother! will be released in theaters on September 15th.

Loving Vincent – Behold the first film ever entirely hand-painted by 125 different artists. All 65,000 frames of it! Loving Vincent is coming to select theaters on September 22nd.

Stranger Thing 2 – Can the second season match the charm, nostalgia, and terrifying intrigue of the first? Judging solely from this first teaser for the show’s return in October, I’d answer with a resounding YES! Season 2 hits Netflix on October 27th.

What Happened to Monday – This new Netflix original looks to be a clever sci-fi thriller with an Orphan Black twist. The film hits Netflix soon, on August 18th.

Mindhunter – No one tackles the serial killer genre quite like David Fincher. Plus, he brought House of Cards to Netflix, so his series track record is on-point. Look forward to his next big Netflix series, and my next TV obsession, when Mindhunter premieres on October 13th.

Narcos – Pablo Escobar died in season 2, but the series continues with its next exciting installment when the third season premieres on Netflix September 1st.

Coming soon to your Television…

The Problem With Apu – This feature length doc from Hari Kondabolu is coming directly to TruTV and looks to be a poignant and seriocomic look at the casually racist depiction of The Simpsons’ Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. The doc is coming this Fall to TruTV.

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling – SPUNKY!!! One of the most beloved NickToons of all time is coming back in an all new feature film! Static Cling is due to premiere sometime in 2018.
