It’s Marvel, huge minis, and generous furniture builders in this week’s edition of the tabletop game news roundup. Let’s Re-Roll things…
- USAopoly has posted a look at Codenames: Marvel. There are 200 cards and, while the rules haven’t been posted yet, there seem to be some twists, judging from the cover cards. I’m sure your Marvel knowledge will really be put to the test in this version, coming soon.
- Available to preorder now is Zombie Dice Horde Edition, which collects the base set with two of the more popular expansions, Double Feature and School Bus. The game comes in a box, but it includes a bag, special counters, and a scorepad. From Steve Jackson Games.
- How you turn my world, you precious thing… the mass market, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth – The Board Game hit stores last year. This week two upgrades were announced: a Goblins expansion, which includes some optional rules and deluxe pieces for the base set. Now, ordinarily, I see deluxe and think “yeah, right,” but these are 100% legit. This optional set includes five figures that are THREE TIMES the size of the regular minis and come with felted bases and weathered metallic paint. Wow!
- This is pretty cool: Geeknson, a UK manufacturer of game tables and other geeky furniture (who ship to US & Canada) made a generous offer to some of those left in the cold by Geek Chic’s shuttering a few weeks ago. Geeknson will accept Geek Chic coins, the gift card-like currency, up to $500 toward one of their tables. Nice job, guys! That’s almost as cool as A FREAKING VIKING ON A TABLE LEG!
- Fantasy Flight has revealed that Wave 6 of Armada expansions is now available. With Imperial Light Cruisers and Hammerhead Corvettes, you’ll be ready for some close-in, tight-turn fighting.
- Effective this past Monday, new rules for Star Wars Destiny go into effect. The updates and errata can be found in a pdf that’s available online.
- Rounding out FFG news, Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne is available now. The game is, essentially, a Westeros reskin of Cosmic Encounter and an exercise in bluffing, deduction, and diplomacy. Perfect for the theme!
- Asmodee just dropped a preview of the upcoming Splendor expansion, Cities of Splendor. However, it’s actually four expansions in one: Cities, Trading Posts, Strongholds, and The Orient. This update teaches us about Trading Posts and how it builds on the base game.
- There are two big titles heading to shelves next week, and we happen to have reviewed both. Between Two Cities: Capitals (read our review) provides a strategic improvement to the clever and unique city building game and Lovecraft Letter (read our review), which Jonathan Liu loved.
- Last, but certainly not least, keep an eye out at your local brick and mortar shop for big things this fall. That is, CGE will be providing retailers with oversized (promotional) versions of all three Codenames games. Everything from the box to the 4.7 x 2.7-inch cards will be bigger. Fun!
