My favorite part of attending conventions is soaking in all the art. ConnectiCon 2017 had so much to appreciate! From indie comic books to cosplay to knitted crafts to big time illustrators, it was a visual delight. Here are my favorites (it was hard to pare this down!)

If you are a Miyasaki fan, these books are a must. The soft light and soaring tone of the films linger on every page.

Took this one home with me because it’s so me. The design is sweet; it wraps gently and securely around the book with the etched saying on display. Favorite!

Terrible photo, but fun time! Super Art Fight is a “competition” by talented artists on a huge board given strange themes in a short time frame. The commentators keep it entertaining throughout. If you see this group at a Con near you, go for it.

Lots of crafty items, but Flights of Fantasy Crafts stood out to me. I love the hen and chicks!

The Dreaming Doe captured my attention with these sketchbook covers.

The Jolly Otter had some fine, fine stitchery. The handbags were creative and very well made.

Ben Bishop’s illustrations were what brought me to the table, but The Aggregate, his comic, made me want to include him here. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure comic. Something I hadn’t heard of before. Very cool.

Inktober had this amazing long print of one of my favorite series: The Last Airbender and Korra!

My photo does not do this illustrator justice. Gorgeous!

Tons of fantastic cosplay, but the dragon for these two really stood out in the crowd. Good work!

Mike of FalseMindStudios had some sweet commissions I watched him work on. But this dragon made me smile. Get that comic going, Mike!

Make your own plushie! So fun!

Not only are all of the wands hand-carved, unique wood, and beautiful, but each comes with a story to tell, and one that you get to complete as the owner of the magic! The attention to detail and love that goes into each of these was inspiring.

And finally, one more cosplay pic: If you didn’t get to the Kid’s Cosplay Competition this year, you HAVE to attend next time. So adorable! Here is a 3 year old Rey, posing proudly for Captain America, the host (he was so great with the kids.)

Till next year! Art away!

  1. Is that your hand in the top pic, Rebecca? I ask because it looks a bit swollen. Maybe you should get it checked out.

    🙁

    1. That is my hand. It is swollen due to health issues that I’m getting checked out- thank you for your concern!
