Trailer Theater: From ‘Dark Crystal’ to ‘Star Trek’ – So Much Great TV

Featured Television Trailer Theater

Trailer Theater is a new weekly column covering the best trailers and promotional videos of the past week in one, easy to discover place. This week is all about TV! From new shows like Dark CrystalGlow, and the latest incarnation of Star Trek to the return of some of TV’s best, like Preacher and Game of Thrones, this weeks Trailer Theater has seven previews which prove that the golden age of television is far from over.

Coming soon to your TV or streaming device…

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance – A new, 10-episode prequel series to The Dark Crystal is coming soon to Netflix, and this short teaser does its job well. I dare you to contain your excitement as you hear Jim Henson’s voiceover pulled from old interview footage and catch glimpses of the practically designed creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud, the original film’s conceptual designer.

Star Trek: Discovery – The newest Star Trek series, the first in some time, is a prequel set a decade before the original series and one that exists on a separate timeline than the most recent film series. The new incarnation stars Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) and will be the first series created specifically for the CBS All Access service. Will you pay to see this new series when it hits CBS All Access this Fall?

GLOW – Do you remember G.L.O.W., the short-lived wrestling series of the ’80s? Whether you do or not, this new series, set behind the scenes of the infamous Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, looks like can’t-miss television. Alison Brie and Marc Maron star. GLOW is set to hit Netflix on June 23rd.

Castlevania  The trailer for the new Castlevania animated series is perfectly retro, including an NES throwback and animation in the style of classic early ’90s anime films like Ninja Scroll. The first season of Castlevania will be coming to Netflix on July 7th.

The Orville The Orville is a new sci-fi comedy series in the tone of Star Trek, created by and starring Seth MacFarlane. Fun fact: MacFarlane’s first and only live-action starring role on TV prior to this was as Ensign Rivers on Star Trek: Enterprise. The Orville will air Thursday nights on FOX this Fall.

Game of Thrones – Winter is coming… again, and I couldn’t be happier. Everything in this trailer is glorious and epic. Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on HBO July 16th.

Preacher – If you missed the first season of Preacher, do yourself a favor and catch up. This show, based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, is wonderfully bizarre and a hell of a lot of fun. Preacher season 2 hits AMC on June 25th.

  1. Is it bad that I am far more interested in “The Orville” than ‘Star Trek’
