Welcome back to the latest edition of Re-Spawn where GeekMoms and GeekDads share video game news that caught our eye in the last week and let you know what we’ve played recently.

  • Blizzard’s Latest:
    • The newest map for Overwatch called “Horizon Lunar Colony” will be available tomorrow, 06/20. This map looks extra fun because there are both inside and outside elements. When gravity becomes less than what you’re used to on Earth it can really change how different players move, attack, and defend. According to the below video, it is 90% indoors with normal (artificial gravity) where we’ll see the play/training room for the gorillas, Winston’s dorm room, the telescope room, they hydroponics room, and more. They devs even comment on their desire to not have the low-gravity fun in the other 10% overshadow all the nuance they built into the rest of the map. I’ll let you know my thoughts on the new map in next week’s article.
    • Pre-purchase options are now available for Destiny 2 which becomes available for PC on 10/24. Hit the Blizzard Shop if you want to buy this title now. Pre-purchasing means you get Beta Early Access.
  • Xbox’s Latest:
    • I did some separate E3 coverage this past weekend and the reveal of the Xbox One X (yes, the name is obnoxious) was really the big news out of the conference. Xbox is the only one of the big console companies releasing a new system. You can view spec details, performance data, and see a list of all the Xbox exclusive games to come on their reveal page. I think the gameplay video for the upcoming (non-exclusive) release of Anthem that was shown during the Xbox E3 Briefing exemplifies just how impressive the new system, and this game, appear to be.
    • Current Games with Gold are Speedrunners (06/01 – 06/30),  Phantom Dust Multiplayer Content Pack (06/01 – 06/30), Watch Dogs (06/16 – 07/15), and Dragon Age Origins (06/16 – 06/30).
    • You can check out the games on sale right now on the Deals With Gold page.
  • Nintendo’s Latest:
    • You can always view current and upcoming releases on the Nintendo Games Store page but the highlights are:
      • In honor of E3, many fan favorite titles are 50% off! Check out the E3 Sale here before the offer ends on 06/20.
      • Splatoon 2 for the Switch launches 07/21.
      • I’m getting more and more excited for Hey! Pikmin releasing 07/28 for the 3DS.
    • GeekDad Z. posted some highlights after Nintendo’s E3 Event and they have a recap up on their website now as well. The spotlight video below goes into more detail on Super Mario Odyssey and discusses upcoming 2017 game launches on the Nintendo platform.
  • Playstation’s Latest:
    • Playstation’s website is all E3 recap, all the time this week. And that seems appropriate since Sony, by far, had the most impressive game reveals during their E3 session (in my humble opinion).
      • Watch the best video game playthroughs and trailers from the event. Marvel’s Spider-Man was my favorite of the gameplay videos. I want to stress, this is gameplay, not a trailer.
      • Catch sales of up to 70% off on prior E3 show favorites. Titles include games from Call of Duty, Titanfall, and Final Fantasy franchises. You’ll need to move fast, the sale ends soon. I’d love to tell you when but since the site says “Monday, June 20 at 8 am Pacific” I’m really not sure. Monday is the 19th and Tuesday the 20th.
  • STEAM’s Latest:
    • STEAM has many one-day or weekend sales and you should bookmark their News front page so you can keep up on them.
    • Here is a link to the Specials section of the STEAM store as well.
    • The new releases page highlights items that have recently become available on STEAM.
    • Then the upcoming releases page shows you a list of games coming as far as the eye can see. Well, as far as 30 pages of listing can show you, I guess.
    • The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is on sale until 1:00 pm ET Monday for $5.09. This trailer wins “Creepiest Trailer of the Year” which is a title I just made up now because of watching this trailer. Since I can’t unsee it, you should watch as well.
