Probably the biggest piece of news this week was the surprise that Geek Chic was closing its doors. There were a lot of rumors as to why, none of which we’ll touch on here. Instead, we’ll just hope for the best for the customers who have outstanding deposits and undelivered tables and to the talented and great employees, who will hopefully land on their feet very soon.
Letters from Whitechapel is a stunningly beautiful hidden movement game that concerns itself with a decidedly unattractive theme. It’s also quite popular and, since Fantasy Flight picked up the publishing rights, we’ve seen an expansion and now a new stand-alone game. Whitehall Mystery, releasing Q3, puts players in the shoes of Jack the Ripper, again, and the historical characters who chased him.

WizKids announced a few more details about their upcoming pulp-themed card game, Deadline. The game will be available next month (and is being played this weekend at Origins). Players will pretend to be gumshoes scrambling to match symbols, find clues, and solve crimes before their Deadline.
Looney Labs’ Fully Baked line continues down its road of sin (and fun!) with a new version of Fluxx. Drinking Fluxx is a party game that will have players tipsy in their chairs, forgetting rules, and having a good time faster than you can say “Wihat’stshe goal, avgain?” Coming July 24.
Fully Baked also has Adult Mad Libs: The Game on the way, out next week. Even though we all know that any Mad Lib can be adult-themed, this game promises a new way to play and a raucous good time.
Days of Wonder releases Yamatai next week from Bruno Cathala and Marc Paquien. I had the opportunity to play it this week and, aside from being absolutely gorgeous, it’s a really fun game where players use special powers and ships to create routes to harvest resources needed to build in an archipelago. It’s clever and, as I sit here typing this, I really want to play it again. Right now!
AEG will be releasing expansions for their Trains, Planes, and Automobiles games next week. You can either pick up each expansion in a stand-alone box or all three packed together in a Destination Fun Combo Pack.
All the terror and suspense of John Carpenter’s The Thing is making its way to cardboard (and your kitchen table) this fall. The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 will be a joint venture between Mondo and USAopoly and may make you think twice before closing an eye to sleep.
Finally, CMON will be releasing Kronia next week, a small-box card game where you’ll compete with the other players to try to prove you worship the gods more through offerings. Earn the most favors from the gods and win!
