Here are the latest announcements and stories that caught our eyes this week:
- The biggest news this week is probably the announcement of a new version of Betrayal at House on the Hill, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, a D&D themed version of the popular cooperative/traitor game. The new version will be available October 6.
- Big Trouble in Little China, not just a movie, but a phenomenon, was too big to be contained to just a card game (even if it was Legendary). A full-blown game is on the way, complete with minis. Check out the trailer.
- HABA announced a number of new games and among them was everyone’s favorite caped ungulate, Rhino Hero in a new title, Rhino Hero Super Battle that will not only include climbing a skyscraper but battle between superheroes as well. Coming this fall.
- The nominees for our most loved awards were announced (well, the only one that we, GeekDads, get invited to). The Diana Jones for excellence in gaming doesn’t look at sales or reviews, but rewards merit in gaming and, for that reason, is keenly cherished among the gaming community. Check out the nominees and ask yourself “Who can beat Gen Con?”
- Modiphius is taking pre-orders on its Borg Cube Collector’s Edition of Star Trek Adventures. Inexpensive is not a word I’d used to describe this set, but look at all that comes with it…
- Frogriders, a fun game that’s a bit like (up to) four-player checkers with special powers, releases into stores next week. I played it at Geekway (twice) and really enjoyed it. Look for it from Stronghold Games.
- I love abstract strategy and one of my favorites in recent memory is Onitama, a two-player chess-like game with shared limited movements. It’s really clever and it gets a 16-card expansion, called Sensei’s Path, next week. You’ll still need a base set to play.
- What’s that, you say? You like the idea of Love Letter, but it’s too love-y for you? AEG heard you and will be releasing a more sanity-destroying version. Lovecraft Letter will feature tarot-sized cards and be released mid-July.
- A couple of weeks ago, I told you how Renegade was going to be picking up the Spiel-nominated Shipwrights of the North Sea. Well, our friends at Renegade told me they would also be bringing the rest of the North Seas trilogy (and the expansions) to our shores very soon!
