Behold Neill Blomkamp’s New, Visionary Sci-Fi Short; ‘Rakka’

Movies

Last week, Neill Blomkamp, director of films like District 9 and Elysium, released the first in what will be be a series of unique, original, and incredible experimental short films and creative content from his Oats Studios. The first release, Rakka, is one of the most visually stunning and fully realized short films I’ve ever seen. Featuring Sigourney Weaver, Rakka thrusts viewers into an immersive, post-apocalyptic landscape set years after lizard-like aliens have overrun Earth.

Blomkamp is a visionary filmmaker. District 9, with its direct correlation to South African apartheid, is poignant, exciting, and stylistically unlike anything that had been previously seen. His ability to bridge the gritty, frontline documentary style of war reporters with polished sci-fi and visual effects is remarkable. With Rakka, he and his team at Oats Studios have taken it a step further.

Check out the first short film from Oats Studios, Rakka, below, and be warned that the video is for mature audiences only and contains language and graphic violence:

I’m dying to see what Oats Studios do next. Their goal is to create future volumes as well as full-scale features. You can support Oats Studios by purchasing Rakka and other related content on their STEAM page. Support original, creative work like this!
