You’re a health-conscious, technologically-sophisticated geek who tries to take care of yourself, right? You probably have an Apple or Android watch, or a FitBit, and you track your exercise goals and eating so you can lead a healthier life. That’s wonderful for you, but what about your kids? They’re a bit young for an Apple Watch, but wouldn’t it be nice to keep an eye on their wellness and get them involved in their health?
Kiddo is a new project on Kickstarter this week which has already reached their baseline goal, and we want to get the word out about their cool new wearable for kids aged 3-10. We’re going to feature one cool aspect of the Kiddo each day, and hopefully get you excited about backing this project.
Kiddo is worn on your child’s wrist, measuring their vital bio signs, learning what is normal for them and detecting unusual patterns. It offers insightful information that allows families to also set goals together, such as drinking more water, with reward points to reach these goals. Whether you are with your child or not, you can view their health status, activity, stress levels and sleep quality daily. Kiddo’s revolutionary 4-in-1 sensor technology measures skin temperature, heart rate, perspiration and activity levels. Combined with Kiddo’s groundbreaking algorithms, you’ll have more insight into your child’s overall health and wellness development.
Kiddo works by connecting with an authorized mobile phone (e.g. a parent’s phone) via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). It then syncs the data collected by it to the mobile phone which in turn syncs to the cloud in an encrypted manner. This way the data is available to be accessed in real time by any guardian or caregiver who is authorized by the parent.
The Kiddo isn’t a GPS tracker. It is, however, possible to enable geo-fencing on the Kiddo app. This works using the Bluetooth connectivity between the Kiddo and the smartphone hosting the app. When a range is set, for example 30 feet, the app can give off an alarm when the Kiddo moves outside of that range.
