Welcome back to the latest edition of Re-Spawn where GeekMoms and GeekDads share video gaming news that caught our eye in the last week and let you know what we’ve played recently.

  • Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released during Spring 2018, despite much confusion over the actual release date. Even on the Rockstar Games website, you’ll find the date varies from page to page. Some spots say Fall 2017, others Spring 2018. But does that really matter when you feast your eyes on this trailer footage? No? Didn’t think so.
  • Far Cry 5 from Ubisoft is set to release 02/27/18. The game is set in everyone’s new favorite “open world concept” of rural Montana. The game description boasts of an AI that alters the difficulty level of the game experience to match how well you’re playing.  Play well and the game gets harder, so to speak. It will have a co-op mode so you can team up against the cult that is the game’s main enemy. Or you can hire posse members as you need them. The game and trailer are for mature audiences only so be aware you’ll have to click through the “I’m of age” disclaimer to watch.
  • Also from Ubisoft, Star Trek Bridge Crew is a new VR experience releasing 05/30/17 on Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and HTC Vive. With this game, you step into one of the roles aboard the bridge of the Starship Aegis. I loved the video with some of the various Star Trek movie and TV show actors, which you can watch below.
  • Blizzard News:
    • Never one to miss an opportunity to celebrate an event, Blizzard didn’t disappoint with their Overwatch Anniversary event that launched this past week. With new skins and fun dancing emotes for the heroes it was a nice way to wrap up this latest competitive season. Here is a highlight video of the dance moves.
  • Microsoft Xbox‘s latest:
    • Current Games with Gold are Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Director’s Cut (05/01 – 05/31),  Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (05/16 – 06/15), and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (05/16 – 05/31).
    • You can check out the games on sale right now on the Deals With Gold page.
  • You can always view current and upcoming releases on the Nintendo Games Store page but the highlights are:
    • The Girl and The Robot (05/24) looks like a fun romp for the WiiU.
  • Playstation has announced several upcoming releases for the PS4 since my last update.
    • Be sure to bookmark The Drop on the Playstation blog where each week you get a detailed list of synopses of all the games coming out the next week. This week’s article states they will return to the nice, detailed format next week.
  • STEAM has lots of one-day or weekend sales and you should bookmark their News front page so you can keep up on them. Here is a link to the Specials section of the STEAM store as well.
    • The new releases page highlights items that have recently become available on STEAM.
    • Then the upcoming releases page shows you a list of games coming as far as the eye can see. Well, as far as 30 pages of listing can show you, I guess.
    • StarCrawlers is now available and currently 25% off. Double check the price before you buy but I have started the game this week and will let you know my thoughts.

GeekMom and GeekDad often write about video games.  We were a little lighter than usual this week on video game related articles but that isn’t really surprising with Origins and GenCon around the corner as well as the Star Wars: A New Hope 40th Anniversary the site was a bit focused in other areas. But one GeekMom held the fort while we were chasing board games with our lightsabers:
