‘Hilda’ Coming to Netflix

When my four-and-a-half-year-old daughter and I go to our comic book store to purchase one of Luke Pearson’s Hilda books, the person working the counter always says the same thing: “It’s being made into a Netflix series, you know? I can’t wait to see it.”

Neither can we. Our whole family loves Hilda. I’ve made two of the characters as stuffed animals and am gearing up for a third. She’s a strong female character for the ages: brave, adventurous, empathetic, kind, and with a larger worldview than her peers. She lives in a fantasy world inspired by Northern European lore of trolls, barghests, and nisses. Mountain-tall giants live in the world, as do wee invisible elves. It’s a lot for a grade-school-age girl to explore.

There are scant details available about the series, but a few stills have come out that will make any Hilda fan smile with anticipation. Production is being done by Silvergate Media, best known for The Octonauts, another favorite in our house. The new series is slated for a 2018 release,  though it’s unclear when in that year. Until then, we’ll just keep rereading the books and getting ready. Let us know if you’re a Hilda fan in the comments!

  1. That looks like it will be a charming addition to this household’s regular viewing. In any case better than the Real Housewives of Where-ever.
I shall gladly await the coming of ‘Hilda’.

Nope. No kids. Just me and the apartment mate.
    And the stuffed animals.

    1. Our whole family likes Hilda! So the adults in the house are also looking forward to it 🙂
